Erik had more ability then Barrera, but was just an emotional wreck which meant the more he disliked you the more he would try and beat you at your own game, so many fights he could've made easier had he not fought other peoples fight.

I had a emotional attachment to El Terrible, i fell in love with him after seeing him make Jin Chi look silly with one eye, his footwork and technique were awesome.

Bowe- Golota rivalries.

***** please, Barrera was a superior composite puncher, had faster hands, and was more defensively sound. Marco was the better fighter, in my judgement, but they were both wonderful, and gave great fights to the fans.

 

Hatton was winning the verbals?? Errrr when exactly?? For 90% of the tour Hatton just kept quiet because he didnt no what to say.

In British sport, I agree the Eubank-Benn era was magical. Doubt we will ever see anything like that again, simply because there aren't the boxing personalities that have the same mass mainstream attention as those two did. They used to regularly attract double figure millions on tv.

But for heated rivalries, how about Kaylor-Christie? That was something else!

A couple of mini, but fierce, rivalries from the late '90s were Thompson-Nelson and Calzaghe-Reid.
Calzaghe and Reid genuinely seemed to despise one another ("He's just jealous because I'm better looking than him" - Calzaghe, hardly James Toney level in the trash talking stakes is he?).

Eubank-Collins was also pretty intense. Collins really got under Eubank's skin.

 

This is a strange one as I've heard differing accounts of when the rivalry between the pair first started. I've heard some people say that they hated each other from their teenage years when they got into a fight playing football as they knew of each others reputation in the ring. Whereas I've heard some say that the hatred didn't start until the build-up to the 2nd fight.

As much as I like Morales, he acted like an utter **** after that fight. Didn't Marco go over to congratulate Morales on the trilogy then Morales started talking **** then throwing a water bottle at Barrera's father? Or did Barrera go over to taunt Morales?

I love how before Morales' first fight with Pacquiao someone from HBO(?) interview Barrera and asked who he wanted to win and Barrera said "I want Morales to win, I always want Mexican fighters to win." When Morales was told this his apparent reply was "He's ****ing lying."

Hagler seriously hated Leonard - looking back it's easy to see why. Leonard has this image as a really great guy but on the legendary nights features he just seems like a spoilt, selfish, calculating twat.... whereas Hagler seemed like a great sort of bloke who never really got the breaks he deserved.

On other features I have seen of Leonard he has been portrayed more favourably, and also in the book 'Four Kings'.

 

Definitly, all of them were great bouts I have read, heard or seen. Just the ultimate clash in styles.

Some sort of Mexican kids league, seems a bit far-fetched but I remember reading an article a year or so back saying that Morales was a massive fan of some Mexican 3rd division team.

 

Terry Norris V Paul Vaden.

They were both in a love triange with the same woman !!!!

They then had to fight each other in a big unification fight

This wasnt just to win the unified titles it was too prove who was the alpha male to the queen of their hearts lol:

Anyway - Vaden turned into the meek man on the night and Norris proved himself the alpha male and dominated him and won the fight the titles.......and he probaly got the girl in the end too :yep

 

abit. barrera turned pro at 15 and there from different parts of mexico:bbb

 

That's what didn't add up for me, especially as a major part of the rivalry was Tijuana (Morales) vs Mexico City (Barrera). I've heard it a few times so I thought there might be something in it.

Absolutely gutted Morales is coming back and I really hope a 4th fight isn't made. :-(
