Steve Robinson,top fighter who gets forgotten.

Steve is a very nice man (i worked with him before opening my gym) and has time for anyone.
he now trains and manage`s fighters in cardiff, also personal training.
he was given his chance for WBO World title and took won and also defended it 7 times, before losing to naz,he then won the europeon title.
I`m Glad he stayed in the game as i looked up to him when i was younger and it was then good to work with him.

I havent forgotten him, he had a great run before running into Nas and beat some good domestic fighters we had at the time. In fact I'd say Robinson was one of Nas' best wins.

 

Average fighter but late career resurgance was impressie even if the opposition wasnt. Good performance from Naz but then there aren't any top feathers I'd pick Robinson to beat to be honest, and Naz is 2nd tier at 126 at best.

 

I was at the weigh in to that fight and Warren got up and asked the question , "Is this a bridge too far for Naz", then one of the lads got up and replied "yea a Severn Bridge too far you slimey **** " thats when i fell on the floor :rofl ,

How wrong he was though , Naz was a street or two ahead of Steve on the night down the Arms Park .:deal

 

Robinson did really well...:yep

He was just around when Naz was about in a similar way that Eubank and Benn were around when Wharton was trying his best to secure a World Title...:yep

 

i was one of the ones who thought (and hoped) robinson would be too big and too strong at the weight for hamed.hamed had been fighting at junior feather and robinson was a big lad at his weght.he,robinson always came across as a beltin' bloke and i'm glad he's still in the game.

Very nice guy, I remember him helping Palacios after he beat McMillan and was then diagnosed with HIV (I think).

Nope thats rubbish, I cant remember who said it but someone said in a previous thread that if Naz had fought in the 60s or there was hardly any footage of Naz and people looked at his record he would be called an ATG which I think is true.

Top man is Robinson. Ok, not exactly an ATG but did the best he could with what he had, and you can't ask for more than that. Boxing's all about seizing opportunity and Steve certainly did that. He took the ball an ran with it.

I'm not under any illusions that he would have beat a prime McMillan, but before many of his fights - McMillan, Hoko, etc many still made Robinson the underdog yet he still won.
He was also royally screwed over in the build up to the Naz fight, and whilst I don't think it would have affected the outcome, things were hardly in his favour when Warren forced him to take the fight whilst still on his honeymoon.

 

I can't remember any fighter who improved so much after winning a world title. Took his chance, made the mostiof it and knew when to leave the game.

IBF World Champion.

Beat the reigning WBU World Champion.

Beat the reigning WBA World Champion.

WBC World Champion.

Lost once to modern great Barrera on points.

All at featherweight.

He reigned as the best featherweight for 5 years.

And you call him 2nd tier at the weight.

Your standards are silly.

He was the best featherweight to come along for along time.
