Now it’s official: “I signed today. It’ll go down on May 29,” said Rogerio Minotouro to GRACIEMAG.com, this Wednesday night. The aforementioned statement refers to the fight with Forrest Griffin, his next challenge in the UFC, a matchup GRACIEMAG.com has commented on in recent months. Griffin, a former light heavyweight champion, is coming off a win over Tito Ortiz at UFC 106. In his first appearance in the UFC, in November, Minotouro had a solid 1st-round knockout win over Luis Banha. The bout, which would put the winner at the top of the weight group, was wished for by the fighter. “That’s right, I asked for this fight. I wanted to figh thim,” says Minotouro. “Forrest is a standup fighter, is aggressive, and I like that. He also has absurd stamina and excellent Jiu-Jitsu,” he says in praise. To Minotouro’s delight, the fight is now set in stone. Nevertheless, he has many reasons to celebrate. Last Monday, January 25, Valentina was born, marking the Brazilian’s debut as a father. “It’s awesome. Being a father is a great feeling, but also a great responsibility. Who can hate on Forrest? Dude's willing to fight literally ANYONE who wants it at 205. I'm not necessarily a fan of him as a fighter per say but I would never disrespect him simply for his sheer determination and will to fight the best there is to offer. He's surprised some people before, just when you count him out he comes back and does incredible things. I think we're in for a good fight here.
Rogerio Nogeuira is not one to overlook any opponent. Forrest will definitely have his work cut out for him - that said - I never expected him to beat Shogun, Rampage or Tito!
He didnt expect him to beat Tito in the rematch I guess is what hes saying. Neither did I and I dont feel like Forrest did the only round he won IMO was the round Tito apparently forgot to fight in.
Not sure if this is a great fight for Forrest. Forrest has good stand up and BJJ BUT he is dealing with an amateur boxer/legendary bjj guy. If Nog has truely good stand up he'll time Griffins herky jerky **** and get him the **** out of there. Silva timed the **** out of griffin and brought about sleepy time.
dont know if youve seen lil nog vs cane..? that was the first time i saw rogerio fight, and that was one helluva performance.!! forrest is being used as a stepping stone here, and the difference in class might not be as huge, as in the silva fight, but i got a hunch it will be close to..
Lets not get carried away and start saying Forrest is going to get Merk'd. Forrest can fight, he out pointed Rampage for christ sake. I think Forrest is the favorite in this one.
Great point that guy might just be a UFC only fan and not very fimilar with Rogerio outside the Cane fight. Take away the fluke loss to Sokoudjou and that narrow loss to the great Shogun and this guy is unbeaten with one of the best resumes in MMA.
