Did Brinkley's win over Stevens officially make him Bute's next mandatory? Personally I think Jesse should settle for being a famous club fighter, and forget Bute. He'll end up with brain damage if he fights Bute.
I believe he has earned the right to a title shot yet. If I'm HBO though, I'd probably turn this fight down. It's not going to be close to competitive and does nothing to hype Pavlk vs Bute.

C'mon guys, Brinkley has beaten some decent guys in a row in VERY dominating performances. I think he has done enough to deserve a title shot.
A shot at what? A cat scan? That was the best version of Brinkley I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few of his fights. After all Stevens' smack talk, dude came in like he thinks he's a thug, and Jesse pretty much handed him his ass on a boxing glove! Great win for Brinkley, but he is no match for Lucian! You ever seen Brinkley fight a guy with fast hands?
Brinkley has earned his right to a title shot, I don't see why not. He has done his job, moved through the rankings the hard way, and its time he got his shot. I am also in agreement that Bute would beat him convincingly but shoving Brinkley aside when he has worked hard for the opportunity to fight for the title would be a real shame. BTW, I was there at the fights, a lot more fun when its live. :good
I bet that was a lot of fun to be there! It was one of those fights that was way more exciting than I expected. God Damn Brinkley constantly dropping his right EVERYTIME he throws a left; I was worried and nervous about a killer left hook coming over that low right the whole timeatsch
Doesn't help that it got worse as the rounds passed, either. Brinkley has earned a payday, but if not Bute, who?
Look guys, I'm not trying to say Brinkley hasn't earned a shot. I'm just saying that he's a big regional attraction, and maybe he should use the Steven's win to bolster that instead of getting sparked in 5 rounds by Bute. That might be a better career move.
In the late rounds he got caught with an uppercut that almost took his head off and everybody went "Oh damn". Brinkley has a leaky defense but can take quite a lot of punishment.
