Boxers and bodybuilders have extremely different routines. Neither should follow each others routines.

That sounds about right. If his friend had a clue he wouldn't be here asking this question.

bodybuilding routines have no place in the world of boxing..

the most efficient method is periodisation

You may as well ask for a springting routine for a truck driver's job, they have about as much in common as body building and boxing. If you mean he wants to get bigger, boxer or not the same still applies - eat more and lift heavy weights.

Bodybuilding and boxing are two very different things. Your friend needs to pick one or the other for his gym.

Well the gym i go too has lots of weight machines and plenty of meat heads coming in pumping iron, but its deffo a boxing gym and the boss would soon be telling you off if you said you were a boxer but lifting weights(for building) . Business wise its a very good idea to get money into the gym as there are far more people interested in building than getting punched in the face. However any competent person would know to keep the two seperate surely ????

Is your friend doing this purely as a business and hire staff and coaches who know what they are doing, cos no offense but if hes getting things as basic as that confused maybe he shouldn't be doing this on his own??..................................
    ....................or at all :nut

So he's a boxing coach that moved to a new gym that has a lot of weight equipment, and he wants to know what type of lifting his guys should do if they're trying to move up in weight?

First of all, don't call it bodybuilding, because that's a sport and it makes boxers angry to hear the word in the same sentence as boxing.

But yeah, if you have heavyweights then weight training to gain a couple pounds isn't bad. Other than that, your boxers should probably focus on power training. But either way, they should be lifting heavy weight, low reps, lots of sets, lots of rest between sets. They should be focusing on exploding on the concentric part of the lift and then lowering the weights slowly. If they want to gain weight, they should be doing this and eating a whole lot.

There's really no need for a boxer to lift weights if he isn't trying to gain weight though. You can develop power through medicine ball work, floorwork, etc. I would steer all the guys except the heavyweights away from weight training. The exception would be guys who are really overweight and looking to lose lots of weight before taking fights. Those guys can use weights as a supplement to their running/walking and boxing work to help them burn extra calories.

ohhh ok fair enough the above poster is right then youve worded it wrong mate, dont say bodybuilding lol thats why you got the above responses

tell him to have a look at this guy he does books ect although in the gym i go to weve never weight lifted in the sense i think your thinking of.

The only thing weve done there is a circuit with weights involved. Usually 8 stations
My description will be crap but hopefully youll get what im on about

1 Dumbells (hold them and do lunges)

    2 Situp incline bench

    3 dead lifts

    4 shoulder shrugs

5 light dumbells and punch up with them

6 then bicep curls with barbell (light weight, and coach says fully extend arms keep the muscle long) ..this may be controversial lol

7 then sledge hammer and tyre

8 and lifting a keg above your head

do the circuit for i think he does 45 secs , 30 secs, 15 sec on each station (i could be wrong on times) and then a sprint round the block as fast as poss

thats my only experience with weights and boxing AS A STUDENT

sure someone with coaching experience can help

by the way the gym looks ace from your pic
