But what of Duran's strengths do you particulary think trouble Gavilan and ice versa.

I honestly havent thought this fight through enough to comment.

    Best documentry ever IMO

Everything about Arguello oozed class, did'nt it? Just a top man.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that Gavilan was a brutal finisher, if he had a boy hurt he really knew how to finish.

Everything he does would trouble him. Are you asking what characteristics could win him the day? I'd say his superior defense and punching form would give him the slight edge in the in-fighting as far as the judges would be concerned. Considering the majority of this fight would likely be fought from mid to close range, I think that'd be enough for me to narrowly favor Duran.

Agreed. The exchanges would be furious mind, but I see Duran landing the more, shall we say, potent leather. A great fight no doubt, especially as both were multi-faceted fighters.

That is what I meant. Fair enough, like I said never really thought of this fight in much detail.

There is also footage of Robinson using it.

Ask Pat Ford or Rocky Lockridge if the actual bolo punch is just showy. Pedroza knocked Ford out with it, and slowed Lockridge to a crawl in their first match with repeated bolo shots to the belly. Gavilan's bolo punch may be the best known (and he lead with it like a jab in his loss to Hector Constance), but it was Pedroza who perfected it into a deadly weapon. (For whatever it's worth, Ali also dropped and stopped Dunn with a bolo punch, but that was a clowning telegraphed wind-up that merely showed how helpless Dunn had become.)

Defending the title against Gavilan at 147 puts Robby over the top at WW. A strong case can be made that this was the foremost successful title defense in the history of the division. (Keep in mind that SRL-Hearns I was a unification bout, not a title defense in the strictest sense.)

Duran opened up in Montreal by feinting Ray into fits, so it's perfectly reasonable that Gavilan does the same. (Duran also drove Palomino nuts with these shenanigans.)

    Underused word.

Anyway, yeah, that's basically what I was getting at.

I like Gavilan against Burley.Get the feeling he can effectively outwork him, but really we need to see more Burley to be sure.

I can't think of a single fighter that ever out-worked Burley, based upon what I know. Maybe Zivic the first time, but that was a disputed decision and he got his head kicked in twice at the back of that one. Maybe Charles the first time?
