Greb's second only to SRR on the all time P4P list IMO.

You could make that case. No flimed fights hurts Greb in the out of site out of mind era we live in.

It kills me that there's not 1 fight film of Greb. His record is easily the most impressive I've ever seen. I wish we could see him fight. My hope is that someone somewhere has a stockpile of his footage. There has to be. Bottom line Harry Greb is top 3 atg.

    not by a mile.............
maybe in boxing but the question was the most dominating sportsman.

eddy merckx the greatest cycling champ ever. when he ended his career his winning percentage was around 33% out of all the races he cycled (somewhere around 1800 he won around 600). one day races. races against the clock. multiple day races. indoor races. etc etc. he dominated cycling fore about 10 years and the only way for others to win was if he didn't participate in the race or if he was slightly injured.
there ain't a sport anywhere around the world where one man was such a force of nature

    There is no footage.

I still haven't come to terms with it. It's genuinely frustrating, in a way that causes a physical reaction, a short seething outburst which shows annoyance.

I do this everytime I contemplate the fact that the greatest ever boxer, around in a time where many films exist of, and yettheres nothing. Even though many of his oppopents and contemporaries are.

So answer me this: which fighters would you trade for some Greb footage? That fighter will have all visual examples of him destroyed, but we get Greb vs Tunney or Walker in it's entirety.

Who's the best fighter you'd be willing to sacrifice? Bear in mind the keeper of this long list celluloid is not stupid: he's not going to allow you to nominate Cory Spinks

Who's the best fighter you could live not seeing again to get footage of Greb? Ali? Duran?

Sam Langford. There's hardly any footage as is, and the footage available sucks.

I'd swap Greb's career on film for the career of any fighter ever on film. How many great fights was he in with greats? More than anyone.

****! dammit mcgrain...every time i try and think of greb's all time position you pull something like this out. fact is yes: he had the greatest resume of all time. not just the opponents but the victories! (obvious but still oscar's resume is impressive on name basis only but his elite level win loss record is sketchy at best). you're right: greb dominated all time greats in an era full of them. hard to make a case for any name other than SRR at the top when all things are considered. BUT that's just boxing...in all of sports, you will have some competition from captains of amazing teams such as pele or maradona, some golfers such as tiger obviously and bobby jones but i would have a hard time pin pointing anyone who was MORE dominant

Well i have work to do for as long as people rank him bellow #4, which is patently ridiculous.

i feel fleaman's pain though! it's tough to rank someone when the ONLY footage is them training...and it's not very flattering. on record, anecdotal evidence and the status of the individuals who beat and knocked out (most notably the first tunney fight, which is probably the fight i would most want in history) you have to give him his due

Perhaps the greatest sportsman of all time is never going to be a boxer due to the atrition it takes on the body.

On the other hand, what is the greatest sport?
