Armstrong himself was very emphatic that he would never have beaten SRR even if at his best, after their 1943 meeting. Robby got an awful lot of ATG mileage out of that declaration. To place Hank over Ray would mean overruling both JohnGarfield and Armstrong himself (as well as LaMotta).

What's interesting to me is that a real case could be made for placing Greb at the top. The films of his wins over Tunney and Walker have not come to light (at least not yet, but hope remains when such pristine training footage of Harry has surfaced). However, ringsiders observed that Harry's legs were clearly not what they used to be when he took the decision even Mickey did not dispute in his autobiography. With both at their best, there doesn't seem to be much debate about who would have held clear superiority. (Greb also should have regained the title from Flowers and retired as champion.)

Placing Greb atop the heap would trigger vociferous debate and garner tremendous attention, when I suspect most would automatically expect Robinson to get that ultimate nod.

But a P4P list is not entirely (or in this case not at all) based on H2H criterea what Armstrong achieved is better than what Robinson achieved in some people's eyes and that is what can make the difference IMO. And you could rate Armstrong top but still beleive Robinson beats him.

If it's going to happen it needs to be very soon. Rate of deterioration menas that the film would be close to non-existant regardless of how it was stored at some point this decade.

Incidently, I think the best chance for footage of Greb to appear is neither of the above, but his losing efforts versus Flowers.

Yeah, you couldn't imagine someone connected to fights having that film and not having said something by now, but you could imagine a collector of religious films not realising what he had, I guess.

    I'm not holding my breath.

Any truth in the rumour ESPN have Greb footage they're keeping shtum about so they have backup in the unlikely event they go bankrupt?

Thank Greg Paterson for this rumour

Wtf, how much would it be worth? Not enough to rescue a bankrupt channel.

Depends how much of it there is I guess. I mean, to a Boxing Collector it's priceless, but how many massively rich boxing fans aretherw that would be willing to pay 50 mil for those two fights?

I feel ESPN would've showed it by now. I have given up all hope to be honest, and coming to that point has made me very glum indeed.

Like a 6 year old kid denied it's want of choice: Its not fair.

ESPN has not even cataloged what they purchased from the late Bill Clayton. At the very least I would like to read what they own.

I tend to doubt ESPN has the in house talent ID Greb unless the label on the film reel said Greb vs.

Bert Sugar had Saddler in his top three, correct? Though I disagree with this spot, Saddler got the better of Pep who made the top ten on this author list.

I think Greb should make it, but he's no lock. In fact if he doesn't make it, your going to look very silly.

Comparing resume's I feel that Greb's is clearly superior to Robinson's. I place Greb and Langford over Robinson on my P4P list.

    This. Since Langford isn't allowed.
