i did not watch the fight yet, i only know Hatton won...

    Can anyone explain what happened?

Because Tsyzu seems to be regarded more highly than Hatton on ESB,

Just wandered why, i know he was 36 when he fought Hatton.

Hatton presssued him to sin - walked through some huge right hand bombs and ground Kosta Down. Hatton at times was also able to land some decent shots and force kosta backwards
There was also a knockdown/border line low blow that wasnt counted which some people moan about and hatton did a lot of huggin and mauling. It was a ruff fight with a great atmosphere not really a classic tho

Hatton fought damned dirty in that fight: Rabbit punches, low blows, forearms, headbutts, while constantly doing his hit and hold style of fighting.

Kosta was out wrestled and out fouled, if that fight had taken place anywhere else the result may have been different.

Firstly, Tszyu is more highly rated because he was a better fighter.

Kostya wasn't completely shot like some will tell you but he was 36 and hadn't fought many rounds over the previous couple of years.

Hatton put a lot of pressure on him - legally and illegally. He wrestled and mauled a lot more than any fighter should be allowed - the ref really did let him do whatever he liked.

Hatton also showed a tremendous will to win - he took some good shots but kept coming forward and hitting Kostya with whatever he could.

A younger Tszyu, or even this version with a different ref would have made for a very different fight but I would say it's still Hattons best win.

TSyzu was just at the end of a very good career. if he was still in his prime he would of won. it was just an up and comer beating up of the retirement community.

Hatton was very determined and stylistically, with the ref allowing him to wrestle, he managed to outfight an older Kostya in a very close fight. Ugly fight but still a very good win. Hatton is now underrated, the guy beat Kostya and DOMINATED B level fighters like Mallignagi & Maussa. Also beat Urango & Collazo, both bigger men.

Hatton did walk through some massive shots that fight which i think disheartened tsyzu slightly. Hatton walked into a huge right at the start of near every round! Think Tsyzu was a bit past his best and suffering from a bit of ring rust though. I do have an awful lot of respect for hatton but dont think he would have had the same result a couple of years earlier

You lot are tossers. Cant take it that Hatton beat a great. Never giving the man any credit.

"Yea hattons a cheatin one dimensional poorly skilled bum whos a two weight world champion, ring magazine champion and linear champ at 140. and won 45 out of 47 fights. absolute bum"

He outfought and outbrawled Kostya. Ricky won with hes own game plan. He couldnt box kostya he would have lost. thats not what Ricky does, hell tell ya that himself. He wins by fighting, not by boxing. And that night a 25 year old ricky Hatton beat up the legendary kostya Tszyu in dramatic fashion - to the point where Tsyzu had to quit on his stoll.

AND BY THE WAY, youll actually see if you watch the fight it was KOSTYA that was giving the forearms and lowblows. Consequently, Ricky gave a blatent one back knowing the referee could not deduct a point as he would have had to deduct Kostya for his earlier offences. And thats what happened, the ref just warned them both after the rickys low blow.

It was also Ring Magazine's fight of the year and Hatton was awarded Ring Magazines fighter of the year 2005.

    Absolute Classic.

The fight against Collazo was especially ugly and I think Hatton lost it.

Prime Hatton is underrated and KT was in the twilight of his career but still the top dog. Hatton fought roughhouse but if this fight had been in black and white nobody would've said boo about it. Hatton fought no more "dirty" than far greater fighters who are regarded far higher with rarely a word on their tactics. Ali, Hopkins, Holyfield, the list goes on. Clearly greater fighters but they all their roughhouse tactics. They all did things which were largely let slide and also some things are simply at the refs discretion and if you can't deal with that, it's your problem or your ass as the other fighter. KT did not and could not adjust with Hatton due to his physicality. If a weaker fighter had tried to maul him like that, the same version of KT would've probably been able to lay the guy out on a stretcher. But Hatton is an athlete, like him or not, with great strength. KT got physically outmatched even though he is technically superior prime for prime. Hatton's best win was over a viable but faded KT. End of story.
