I do, because it was a single shot which laid Bodell out cold, and he never recovered. Gil Clancy's theory that winning titles automatically improves the new champion to a certain degree was turned on it's head in this one, and Bodell lost his EBU and BBB of C championships in back to back career ending humiliations.

Shavers took a substantial beating before going down, but his career eventually recovered impressively. Mac Foster recovered to retire Zora Folley, ruin undefeated Mike Boswell, and go 15 rounds with an aggressive Ali who was barely 30.

After Bodell, Jerry's most damaging win was obviously Spencer. He ruined Thad the way Frazier destroyed Ramos (although Manuel did manage to go the distance against some rugged opponents).

For as long as Quarry-Bodell lasted, Jerry really slipped punches well, much as he did against Spencer. At least this southpaw gave him no stylistic challenges whatsoever. He was really ready for this one.

I seen this before but Did not realize Bodell was so big, he looks a few inches over Jerry. Jack had the style to trouble a lot of guys he was awkward and southpaw but he did not have the chin to deal with Jerry...Jerry was waiting for the right and "Bingo" Bye Bye Bodell

Seems like Bodell had a bit of a china chin, 11 stoppages in 13 losses. :think

Almost all of those in the first two rounds.

I can't recall the exact odds, but I should think that Quarry was a pretty heavy favourite.

i think quarry did his best to miss bodell but failed miserably.jerry only threw 2 right hands and they both dropped the swadlincoat pig farmer.quarry did the same to brian london in their second fight.
i wish quarry had fought cooper and retired him earlier

Really Bodell wasn't in the same class as Quarry,if Jerry didn't get him out of there inside 3 rounds then he would have deserved a bit of stick.Quarry fully expected to do what he did,he never really got that excited after the knockout because he saw it as being pretty much routine.

Quarry was an overwhelming favorite. Nobody expected much of Bodell in this fight. Concerning Bugner, you need to realize that he was only 21 years old, and inexperienced, when Bodell beat him. At that time (1971), Bugner had not yet matured into the tough contender that he was during 1973-77.

It wasn't a lack of maturity which cost Joe against Bodell, but a lack of fire and aggression. Bugner needed an Angelo Dundee to light a fire under his ass. Dino Denis had a knack for pissing opponents off, and Bugner made him pay for it. I've often wondered what Joe might have achieved if he entered every training camp and match with the aroused and motivated mind set he took out on Denis. (All of Bugner's detractors should see how he flattened and stopped Dino with a single shot, then maybe they can understand why Ali said Joe would succeed Muhammad as Champion.)
