Okay I wanted to know how youd rate these guys in order as far as pure punching power mine looks like this

Hearns Im not sure if he hit harder than Pipino, but since he moved up and was still a bomber ill give it too him
    Cuevas- Very close see^
Lopez- I think he was close to the other 2 but didnt have the resume
Tito- Hit awfully hard but dont see him hitting as hard as these guys

Ok as you can see im only putting guys in the last 40 years on my recent threads regarding punching power. (last one Lightweights)

The reason i didnt put a 5th one was cause to many guys could make a case for 5th Curry,Brown,Quartey,Palomino,Breland,Delahoya,Mosley,Napoloes,Yori Boy Margo,Jones,Page,Espana etc etc

I think Colin Jones deserves a mention based on pure punching power.

:nono Not with the 4 i mentioned. Those guys definitly harder than Colin, who went 24 tough rounds with Mccory without dropping him.

He probably deserves an honarable mention with those other guys though.

Donald Curry only needed 2 rounds to get Ice Mccory.

Thats not really the way to look at it anarci.

I mean Curtis Ramsey went the rounds with Curry...And though he ended up being DQ'd for it Jones apparently had Curtis out for the count but caught him with another glancing shot when he was down.

Power is one thing...having the ability to land with it is another.

Seeing this is a thread about punching power then he is a fair shout.

But he could bloody well hit...Perhaps not as hard as those 4..But probably deserves a mention over some of the 5th placed candidates.

I havent seen the first McCrory bout but from what Ive read he busted Milton up and had him backing up in survival mode for a lot of the fight. Dont necessarily need to knock a dude out to show you have power.

Ok fair enough good points i put him with the honorable mention and i also put in James Page and Crisanto Espana i just didnt want to add so many because then id have to add another dozen.
Should Stracey be on that honorable mention list? Pac? Cotto? i could probably keep going

Stracey could not hit like Jones ,and probably not any harder than Dave Green .
Jones could whack but tended to throw them one at a time, clever boxers could sometimes stay one step ahead of him, eg McCrory,Laing too, for quite a while in two fights before Jones connected .

I wouldn't put Stracey in the same league as Jones. Colin deserves a mention though in the honorable mentions.

Stracey wasn't that much of a hitter.

Out of these, Hearns is clearly the biggest and best puncher

That right hand that Curry used for the ko punch !! It was after McCrory had got up from the first knockdown, and Curry had the air of a man thinking "I know exactly where I'm going to place this punch 3-2-1" he just strolled up to Milton and delivered it. Incredible.

Clearly? You dont think Cuevas is close? I have a dvd of his greatest kos and hes one of the biggest punchers of all time in any weight IMO.

Id say its between Hearns and Cueves anywho.

Hearns has the overall effectiveness because of his advantages in speed, timing and physicality. And given that Id probably side with Pipino because he was just raw power personified.

Yes up there with one of the most impressive kos ive seen. Remember my dad kept insisting that Curry was gonna kill Mccory. I was stubborn and didnt see that happening I had Mccory( I was only a young teen:lol:)
Lot of people thought Mccory might do it,Curry was only a slight favorite, but he made it look like Mccory was not even on his level, treated him like a Clubfighter/Journeyman.

Yeah, but who did he stop?

I really like Cuevas, and in terms of pure power he's hard to topple at 147. But I'd go for Hearns in a heartbeat. I have quite a few fights of Cuevas on DVD, but I thought that meant I wasn't qualified to make an opinion:lol::good
