Now i've heard it said that Greb has the best resume of all time. I know for a fact that Fleaman has said this and probably others on this board too. Who else would argue that this guy has the greatest resume of all time?

Just to remind you Ray Robinson converted his exceptional talent into this list.

    Sammy Angott X 3
    Marty Servo X 2
    Fritzie Zivic X 2
    Jake La Motta x 5
    Henry Armstrong
    Tommy Bell X 2
    Kid Gavilan X 2
    Bobo Olson X 4
    Randy Turpin
    Rocky Graziano
    Gene Fullmer
    Carmen Basillio

A total of 25 victories I believe over HOF opposition.

It doesn't get any better IMO

List his resume then and prove it.

Greb beat Mickey Walker, Gene Tunney, Mike Gibbons, Tommy Gibbons, Tommy Loughran, Tiger Flowers, Jack Dillon, Maxie Rosenbloom, Mike McTigue, George Chip, Kid Norfolk, Jack Blackburn, Jeff Smith, Battling Levinsky, Willie Meehan, Lou Bogash, Leo Houck, Soldier Bartfield, Billy Miske, Gunboat Smith, Al McCoy, Zulu Kid, Willie KO Brennan, Jackie Clark, and more. The majority of those men he beat multiple times.

It really doesn't get any better than that unless you're simply talking about opposition faced rather than defeated, in which Archie Moore's resume can't be beat.

I was hoping you wouldnt ask and just go look them up :D...I wanted to go to bed and listing Greb's opponants takes longer then just about anyone elses. :-((

    But here we go.

    Mickey Walker
    Tiger Flowers
    Gene Tunney
    Tommy Loughran
    Maxie Rosenbloom
    Jack Dillon
    Jack Renault
    Zulu Kid
    Jack Blackburn
    George Chip
    Mike McTigue
    Soldier Bartfield
    Gunboat Smith
    Jeff Smith
    Kid Norfolk
    Battling Levinksy
    Billy Miske
    Bill Brennan
    Willie Meehan
    Tommy Gibbons
    Lou Bogash
    Billy Shade

Im probably missing a ton...and to top that off Greb fought just about every ranked contender from 160-175 who was floating around the time he fought. Guys probably not worth mentioning but it gives you an idea of the kind of dominance he had during his peak. He fought the last stage of his career half blind and very often gave away a significant amount of weight to his opponents.

They may not be all HOF but a lot of them are...He fought many of them multiple times and proved his dominance over just about all of them.

There really is no argument I can see for Robinson having a better resume then Greb's. Ray's is excellent, among the best 3 or 4 there ever was but Harry's was better. What hurts Greb is that there is no film available of him to gauge to kind of fighter he was. Whereas when you watch Robinson its like you just watched God boxing.

Robinson has a great resume and he had a fantastic record while in his prime but he went a bit longer past his prime at an age he should have been finished but I have to say if there is a better resume it is Harry Grebs who had an astounding career and resume. 2 of the best, then Archie

Can't believe I forgot "Slapsie" Maxie. Bogash was definitely worth a mention as well.

I'd say Ezzard Charles certainly has a better resume than Greb, not only is the era tougher, he fought the best of the best from MW-HW, Robinson maybe doesnt quite the resume quality, but like Floyd mayweather, robinson is the best of his era simply because you could see how good he was and how he dominated from LW-MW

    Joe Louis
    Walcott - 2-2 (arguably 3-1)
    Rex Layne
    Archie Moore x3
    marshall - multiple times
    Bivins - multiple times
    Elmer Ray -1-1 arguably 2-0
    Charles Burley - 2-0
    Yarosz
    Maxim
    Oakland Billy Smith
    Baroudi
    Sattefied

Also arguably beat Harold Johnson and valdes past his prime, or that could just have been SuzieQ defending Charles as a Marciano opponent. And ofcourse gave Rocky a close fight in their first meeting

So all in all Charles fought better bigger HWs, better LHWs, and better MWs

Not based on the list you gave, nor any list you could give. In other words: no. Greb has him matched on quality and beat on quantity, whether you're doing a top 5, top 10, or top 20 list of opponents.

Good reply, but Grebs resume is good enough that the names in bold don't really need to be included. I actually think that some people might be dissapointed if film of Greb ever surfaces. It would seem from news reports that Greb had an extremely effective mauling and brawling style that may not be aesthetically pleasing, a great fighter but like Sandy Saddler his standing could suffer if the extremities of his style are laid bare.

And why is that, particularly with Blackburn?

He doesnt have him matched on quality though. Charles fought better bigger HWs, better LHWs, and better MWs

Because Zulu Kid and Shade just weren't that good and Blackburns best years were as a lightweight. He had also lost 7 0f his last 8 when he fought Greb.
