Also in terms of dominance Greb lost series to Flowers and Tunney, drew his series with Norfolk, Tommy Gibbons and Mike Gibbons.

I'm assuming you based that report on Zulu Kid on his Boxrec page? He was considered one of the very best Welterweight/Middleweights of the entire era.

As for Blackburn, yes he was a natural LW, who made his living beating larger men all the way up to LHW. As for his record at the time, the majority of those were Newspaper decision losses against, yes, larger men. Not to mention Greb was relatively inexperienced at the time he beat him.

Charles lost both fights with Marciano, lost his only fight with Johnson, his only fight with Valdes, lost the series to Ken Overlin, drew with Walcott, Elmer Ray, and guys like John Holman and Toxie Hall.

    How's that?

Ok Sweet Pea educate me on Zulu Kid, but he lost a hell of a lot of fights for sure, and Blackburn may have made his living beating bigger men but that doesnt mean he could do it on a consistent basis and it doesnt change the fact that he had lost 7 of his last 8 before facing Greb!

When put into context that win aint great. Out of interest where would you put LaMotta in comparison to Grebs competition?

Greb seemed to have got the better of the series with Tunney from what I've read. The 1st two fights anyway.

Ridiculous comment. You have to take into account how far past his prime he was in some of those series and the number of fights he had fought at that point.

The only way to get a true indication of how good Greb was is to read the fight reports. He wasn't just beating his opponents, he was beating them up and outclassing them.

Unless the newspapers were all lieing.

I'd agree that Greb's resumé is the greatest of all-time.

Flea what do you know about the first fight? I heard somewhere that Tunney got headbutted on the nose in the first round and was suffering the consequences for the rest of the fight.

To be fair though he managed to beat Mickey Walker with one eye and he had managed to succeed brilliantly with that eye injury for a long time. As much as i'd like to I cant bump Frazier up a couple of places because he also had a bad eye.

The fact that he did what he did though with that handicap is extaordinary.

I'd say best resume is between Greb and Langford.

    I'd go with Sam.

    Greb a close #2

Charles is right up there though, as is Robinson.

Charles resume doesnt rely on those names, Grebs best names are Tunney/Gibbons Bros/Norfolk and he didnt win the series against them. Whats more Charles arguably beat valdes/johnson/ray/overlin in fights he lost/drew

Some of those names are way past Charles prime, Greb didnt fight past his prime because he died
