Actually, I do consider myself the "average shlub", which is why I say keep my hands up! In a battle between two normal fighters, all else equal, the one with the better technique has the upper hand. Trying to portray the dropped hand as some sort of super weapon is either a sign that you haven't boxed much, or maybe you're just really good and can get away with it. I don't know, but I recommend keeping them hands up, because with it low, you are more likely to get punched in the face. Perhaps not certain to, but more likely to. Which goes right back to my original advice. A guy used that dropped hand, punch him in the face!

Agreed you have to be very experienced to use that sort of style and very fast. If your a beginner and realistically not the next mayweather for the time being keep both hands up. I dont know many people if any in our gym that box like that and pull it off effectively.

I have never had to spar someone who can do this well, so you just feint with a jab step in and throw the right hand. If you are a lefty then lead left followed by right hook and then spin them around and repeat till they pick their hands up

It's logical because you don't train for pro bouts. Amateurs tend to brawl, so the training focuses on that stylee. That's why advanced footwork/movement doesn't really exist in the amateur section.
