No you are somewhat qualified, just not as qulified as the OGs like me and others Cuevas did ko some good fighters. Thats kind of what im talking about anyone who was fan around that time would know that Angel Espada kod 3 times once in he 2nd was a very good fighter and Champ Harold Weston- was also good enough to draw with Benitez and take Hearns best shots and gave him hell before suffering a detached retina. Cuevas broke his jaw and stopped him Pete Ranzany- Very good fighter blown out by Cuevas Billy Backus-Former champ blown out Clyde Gray- Very good top contender and a Canadian legend Blown out!
I think Cuevas was a huge puncher at his peak he literally left a trail of broken jaws and eye sockets in his wake.
That guy Ray Robinson wasn't much of a fighter, and probably not worthy of an honorable mention, but I just felt like mentioning him. Maybe someone could find it in their hearts to list him somwhere amongst these guys.
(Last 40 Years) Read the Thread!! Or are you another ESB poster that has a selective reading disability:think
1. Hearns 2. Cuevas 3. Lopez 4. Tito I could see Cuevas and Lopez possibly being switched, but I'd say Hearns should be on top and Tito at the bottom.
I know who all of these guys are. Not as impressive as Hearns stopping Pipino himself IMO. And in such fashion.
True and Duran was the other HOF. I see what your saying though as Cuevas kod some pretty good fighters but never kod a HOF. Hearns kod 2 HOF
Duran was at 154 though, and didn't make up part of my argument. Cuevas could really hit. What do you know of Jose Palacios? Watched his fight with Cuevas the other day.
Yey i should have just mentioned his fights at 147 since that was this thread is on. Anyways Palacios was a pretty good fighter who was on the wrong end of some decision losses. Also hung tough with Palomino. I think I have his fight with Cuevas havent checked that one out in a while. I do know his record was much better than what Boxing records has. They probably dont have records of all his fights in MExico as i know thats where most of his fights were. My dad knows more about him as he fought out in LA back in the 70s(i was too young to go to the fights then)
Love this thread...To me it comes down to Hearns and Cuevas...Pipino may have well had concussive power at WW..probably on par if not better than Tommy shot-for-shot... The edge tho'...must go to the Hitman..purely for speed and leverage height...Tommy,lank as he was, punched from a downward angle on almost all of his WW fights, which helps with generating leverage... The speed and the volume gives The Hitman the edge. But Pipino was no too far behind.Their cannot be used as a measuring stick...purely because Tommy simply never allowed Cuevas to get off...closed shop on him with an avalanche of bombs until he went down. Great thread tho'.
