I think you will find hatton would of spanked witter. Witter only wanted to fight hatton for the biggest payday he would ever get. If witter was that good why didn't he fight mayweather costa or PAC man? He slagged hatton off to get him in the ring because he k ew he would never get a bigger fight or a bigger pay day. I also seem to remember him saying he would fight hatton for free a year or 2 ago but when hattons layers contacted him he rejected because he wanted more money. Now on the money situation it should of been a split 50/50 purse because witter brought sweet fa to the table he couldn't sell out stadiums in his own townet alone sell ppv here and in the USA. He wanted to say **** about hatton in the hope hatton would get in the ring with a split purse which would of been a crazy thing for ricky to do. So to me it is witter who is all about the money otherwise he would of agreed the fight when offered.
Also have you ever met ricky? He is a friend of a friend and IS the most down to earth person you could meet that is a fact my friend
when hatton beat kostya then i agree, he had the oppurtunity to fight the best, and no one can say anything when hatton was ending up fighting the likes of mayweather and paquaio, but that doesn't stop the fact that the fight with witter didn't happen because hatton didn't want it. witter's been asking for that fight for years, and when it made sense, hatton still didn't want it.
But when the fight was offered to Witter he priced himself out of the fight is that the actions of a man who really wanted the fight?
well there was a lot of confusion. first it was a very small offer, but witter said he would accept that offer to fight ricky hatton. when witter's men saw hatton's men, hatton's camp basically said the offer was never for May anyway, so he was going ahead with the lazcano fight. i don't think hatton had any intention to get in the ring with witter. he said he wanted four more fights, and that witter wasn't in those plans.
Seriously get a grip. I'm a fan of both believe or not, although these days Witter moreso than Hatton, and that's some seriously revisionist bollocks that you've just spouted. This fight made a lot of sense when both were domestic level. It made a lot of sense when Ricky was defending his WBU trinket. Admittedly once Hatton reached world level it made less sense; by the time Junior had emulated him at won a world title of his own Ricky had already set his sights on Mayweather Jr. And i'm pretty sure Junior was motivated by more than money.
the fight also would of made sense after the floyd fight, but instead hatton fought lazcano instead of witter who was holding the WBC title at the time. i don't think hatton feared witter because hatton ended up fighting much better boxers, but for whatever reason it was, hatton was the one who prevented that fight from happening. i think he holds a huge grudge.
To be fair to Ricky it was a very small window of opportunity, considering Junior lost his title shortly after the Mayweather bout. I'm willing to except that his confidence would've taken a severe blow having been kayoed for the first time in his career, and jumping straight back into a fight of such importance would've been a risk. It's a pity Junior lost to Bradley as if he had won, the fight would definitely have happened imo.

Witter fights with such an awkward switch-hitting style, when he was at his best it was near impossible to look good against. That coupled with his mouthy attitude and the fact he has never been a big draw meant that it made no cash-common sense to hatton whos british boxings number 1 draw period. Same situation as calzaghe froch but more so. It was never a case imo of either guy been scared. witter- harris, bradley, alexander, kotelnik, judah; Hatton- mayweather, pacquaio, castillo, tszyu, malignaggi etc scared guys dont get in the ring with those calibre of fighters its just another casualty of boxing politics i guess. Shame woulda been awesome
Witter ran into Bradley alright, but the exceptional talent bit has yet to be proven IMO. Witter only lost quite narrowly to Bradley fighting at 70%, if a fit and motivated Witter had turned up we wouldn't now really be talking about Timothy Bradley.
Dont worry pal youve hit the nail on the head with this line alone. People on here have called Witter, Mayweather with a punch. Imo Hatton would have run Witter out of the ring. Witter had very good power at British and European level but at world level? As Gaz OC once said it seemed to dry up. Also Hattons core strength and workrate would make Witter go into a shell especially with his 20 punches a round workrate. Its alarming when you see people rate Witters win over Harris, who to date is Witters best victory, especially when you see the flip side of the coin when Maussa is seen as a gimme victory for Hatton, and Maussa knocked Harris out. Witter cant or couldnt draw flies even in his home town, there lies a major factor in why the fight never came off.
