The MW division is probably going to stay barren for the next two years but man there's a good chance this division could blow up in a few years. So many talented amateurs turning pro.

 

I don't think it will take two years to heat up. Some of these guys are only one break through win away from a run away hype train!

 

I can't see Korobov or Proksa or even Danny Jacobs taking the mega step anytime within the next year or so.

 

When you look at the current top 10 Middleweights, it's pretty underwhelming. This thread shows that in a couple of years though, it could potentially be the best division in boxing.

I'm particularly looking forward to seeing how Golovkin, Korobov and Lara develop this year. Lara has already stepped up his competition while I heard that Golovkin is trying to get a fight with Sturm? Hopefully Korobov will make a move this year. With all his amateur experience there's no point fighting any more no-hopers.

 

According to Box Rec Pirog/Mitchell is over. Pirog won via 5th round TKO. He's the next WBO mandatory.

 

It doesnt say if it was a title eliminator or not? he might fight macklin before pavlik next? maybe........

 

Are any on the list really proven yet?.Pavlik beat a steady stream of seasoned tough veterans before impressivly disposing of Miranda and JT twice.None of these 'prospects' have been hit by anything resembling Pavliks right hand.I don't think Pavlik has much to worry about at the moment until somebody steps up at least.:deal

 

If the future is 1 to 3 years away then dont count out Anthony Mundine....take 4 minutes to watch this if you have not seen much of him before.......first 30 seconds is crap but the rest is an example of a very good defensive fighter with a fast jab and nice counters.....oh and some

All good points. None of these guys at 160 ar "proven" contenders, but several guys in the division are on the verge.

 

Andy Lee has looked pretty poor the last few times i've seen him, but i still think he has some potential

 

not saying they'd beat him now, more down the lines if they step up in comp and domiante then they can give him fits. grandpa hopkins pretty much exposed pavlik as a one dimensional puncher. olympic gold medalists such as lara, korobov, and andrade are the type of fighters that would give pavlik the longest 12 rounds of his career should any of them step up and dominate.

 

As soon as you referred to the number 4 pound for pound fighter in the world as "Grandpa Hopkins" you lost all credibility.

 

Andy lee will surprise a few people, its better for him if the hype is off him and he can work on his few defensive flaws before he is ready. i expect him to be a real contender by the end of this year.
