Hang on a second, who was Ricky Hatton when he was fighting for intercontinental titles?
Who was he when he was defending his WBU title?
Sure he had a following alright, but he was hardly the crossover, tabloid front page, ubiquitous figure that he is now.
How much money do you think his opponents earned when he was defending that shitty WBU trinket?
Do you think Stephen Smith is set up for life?
Or Freddie Pendleton looks back at the footage of himself rolling around on the canvas in agony thinking, 'It was worth it. Look at my palatial surroundings. All because I fought Ricky.'
The point i'm trying to make is if they had fought for the WBU title, Junior wouldn't have exactly earned a retirement fund in a night.
And furthermore all this talk of giving Junior a pay day might explain the reason for why this fight never took place once Ricky beat Tszyu.
But prior to that the idea that there were leagues in between them is nonsense.

 

The reason that Hatton never fought Witter at domestic level was because Hattins promoter back then was not going to roll the dice with Witter as it was a very awkward fight for Hatton where he had everything to lose at the time...:scaredas:

I always said back then that Witter would have beaten Hatton...as Hatton progressed the gap became bigger in his favour.

Hatton would never give Witter the payday on the back of his name, and rightly so...:yep
