I think Rigo, Gamboa, and Lara are the real deal. You believe otherwise?

DIscussions about Cuban boxers often mention the legendary Stevenson and Savon - what would they have achieved as pros? They are clearly a cut above Solis.

However, it's unfortunate that another top Cuban fighter is usually overlooked. Before he sadly died in an accident aged 25, Roberto Balado won the SHW world championships 3 times and the 1992 Olympics, where he was voted most outstanding boxer.

His freakish speed and power reminds me of a young Tyson at his peak. Look what he did at poor Oleg Maskaev in 1993

I shudder to think what he would have done to a 20-yr Wlad Klitschko at the 96 olympics...

I think Perez, Salinas, and Jhonson are better, and more exciting then Lara.

You mean just like Casamayor, Gonzalez, and Gomez dominated the sport?

The only reason Cubans "dominate" in the Olympics is because they train solely for amateur events. Most "regular" amateur boxers compete in one Olympic event and move on to pro's, Cubans compete every 4 years never going anywhere, giving a false sense of superiority that many ignorantly believe would translate into the pro's. How many gold medals did Felix Savon win again? A grown man fighting young boys just learning the sport? China trained their fighters for the Olympics and look how many came home with the gold .

The professional ranks is a completely different ballgame. You can disagree with me and play this "Cubans would do this and that" game, but the professional ranks never lie, and we all know what happened to prior Cuban prospects that went pro.

How many of them have stepped up and fought anyone yet? I know Gamboa has a WBA belt but so does just about everyone else. He has yet to really fight a top fighter.

And the Cubans are right behind the British when it comes to their fighters having Glass Jaws. :deal Let's not forget that.

casamayor has been one of the most consistent lightweight in last 10 yrs
he took on corrales 3 times(beat him twice and lost a close dec.)and has fought the best in the division.Champion at 130 and 135 only got KO at the end by ATG Marquez in a close battle.
