What do u guys think of the "open scoring" concept?

It was in effect during the Demarco/Valero fight and undercard...the judges' scorecards are announced at the end of the 4th and 8th round.

Did u guys think it's an effective way to stop bias judging, or does it ruin the suspense and excitement when a close fight's decision is being announced?

 

I'd say it's a good thing, if it forces the judges to be more honest with their scoring. And it gives both fighters a chance to adjust their game during the fight.

 

hate it. I saw it once bout two years ago, dont remember which fight it was, but one corner just stopped the fight because they saw their fighter was down by a lot. and it's pretty anti-climatic, I like the element of surprise.

 

I don't like it. It gives the guy who's winning an advantage and makes the guy losing the fight by a big margin want to quit.

 

I think it's great. That way if a fighter is winning he doesn't have to put himself in harms way. He can just coast to the victory.

i'd say if a fighter is really that concerned about what is going on throughout the fight, he sould have it worked out w/ his corner to give him a no **** assessment as the fight is going on.

but, there are arguments to be made on both sides of this.

no **** assessment....i.e. the opposite of what tito's corner was telling him...

 

I hate it. You see what it does to fighter who know they're already winning. They get on their bike when they know they're ahead. Abregu did it tonight, and the last fight I've seen with open scoring was the Mormeck vs Bell rematch, and Mormeck ran when he knew he was winning. No more open scoring please.

 

I hate it but I don't know as it's a bad thing either, if that makes any sense.

 

I prefer competent scoring myself.

Part of being a good fighter, and part of being a good chief second, is being able to understand what is happening in the ring without someone telling you the score.

 

that's exactly why i don't like it. i don't like watching fighters "coast to the victory"

Abregu was passive after hearing he was way ahead

and without open-scoring DeMarco would of went out on his shield instead of on his stool

 

Sucks . . .although I think it may have had value in the Valero fight making it easier for Demarco to save himself from unnecessary punishment knowing for certain it was a losing cause
