too many ATGs?

Toney and Pedroza are definitly ATGs. I think Winky just makes it. Tszyu is borderline.

If either of the Klits were to retire today they dont make the cut.

Id say Wlad is about on Par with Norton right now no better no worse.
Vitali a little above them. Atg not quite yet.

Why do you think "Resume" is overused:huh In my opinion its about half of what determines if you are great or not. IMO the other half is HtH OR ALL AROUND SKILLS.

No they are not!!!

In two hundred years time, someone will come across a Toney or Pedroza fight and comment about how good they are and how come no one has ever heard of them.

A couple of articles would be dragged out about them, a few more people will rave about how the 1980's and 90's seemed to be much more than Tyson and Ali and that will be that for another couple of hundred years...

So if hardly anyone has of heard of them in two hundred years, over the course of all-time no one will of heard of them!

So they are clearly not all-time greats. That is a very silly term.

They might be greats of their time and slightly past their time, that is debatable...

 

if at any point you are considered a top 3 fighter of an entire planet then if i think that qualifies you as great. I don't think great fighters should be discredited for the sake of making a list.

 

Definitely. The bar is set low and the reason is so fans of certain fighters can squeeze in their man. Example: SRL, BH

 

There are loads of great fighters. If you list everyone you can think of thats great it comes in at well over a hundred. Thats why its virtually impossible to have a top hundred all-time great list, you'll always leave someone out. And in my opinion no Ken Norton is not a great.

 

No, a top three fighter of an era, is an excellent fighter, maybe even a brilliant fighter, but so rarely a Great fighter.

Great fighters do not come from lists, Greatness is an intangable, often hard to explain, but when you see it, you know it.

Well yes, he is brilliant, a superb fighter. But as mentioned there is no formula, no maths to greatness, that is part of what makes it so special.

I see where you are getting at but then who do you think will be considered ATG ? There are not gonna be to many greats remembered then. Who would you consider ATGs pre 20th century? Even most knowledgeable boxing people cant name more than 5 or 10. Although 100 and 200 years from now there will be footage on all the fighters. Kind of hard to say but there will be many many outstanding fighters that probably will be forgotten or dismissed by then.

As of right now James Toney and Eusebio Pedroza are definetly in my Top 100. Pedroza is also a top 10 All time Featherweight I believe he still has the record for most title defenses by a FW champ. Toney deserves to be up there by jumping so many weights succesfully. Being at the top from Middleweight to Heavyweight is a big acheivement. Not to mention great skills and one of the best PFP during his prime.
