I have read alot of threads where people say Hatton didnt fight Witter because it didnt make sense, or why should he fight Witter when he can fight the 2 best P4P fighters in the world, but what was the excuse before this? Heres my point
Hatton had 21 fights before he contested the British title, in that time Witter was calling Hatton out. Witter in this time had contested for Z Judahs world title unsuccessfully losing on points, and would have made for a good match up, for Hatton, yet Hatton never seemed to want to know.
After Hatton won the British title, a belt he claimed he always wanted to win, he could have defended the title against Witter, as he was no.1 contender for the title, but instead Hatton gave up the British title and fought for the lesser WBU title, which he won against a blown up SFW, instead of meeting Witter.
Hatton defended the WBU belt 15 times in over the 4 years of owning it before challenging Tsyzu. In all that time he never fought Witter. Hatton claimed he had it in his contract, that he had it written in that he would fight Witter within 3 fights at one time and it still never happend. It was said that Witter didnt look impressive enough in winning his bouts by KO so the fight wouldnt sell, yet Hatton could fight A Rios a blown up LW when he hadnt looked impressive in his previous bout.
I remember Warren saying he would have matched Hatton at one time against B Tackie but because Tackie had been soundly beaten by Tsyzu the fight wouldnt sell. Tackie got beat again and knocked down in his fight after Tsyzu by S Mitchell, and then Hatton fights fights him after that. All this time a fight with Witter could have been made.
In this 4 years of Hatton defending his WBU belt, Witter won the British, commonwealth & European titles, which hold more value than the WBU belt and held a victory over future IBF champ Ndou a higher rated fighter than Hatton had ever fought in his career at this time, but still no fight with Witter ever happend.
I remember a picture of Hatton and Witter on the front of Boxing news with an article saying medicine men, as a fight between them would help boost British boxing.
So why do you think the fight never happend in this time?
I dont think Hatton wanted any part of Witter, a slick southpaw, remember Hatton was WBO no.1 contender to face undefeated champ D Corley another slick southpaw, and Hatton never signed.
So why do you think the fight never happend?

look at the times you mention the fight could of been made Ricky was signed to Warren who is a complete **** when it comes to getting fights on, hence the reason Khan has left him so quick. Warren saw Ricky as his cash cow and maybe he saw it as too dangerous for him to witter as I remember the years before the Tsyzu hatton was moaning because warren couldnt get him the fights he wanted hence as soon as he could he left Warren. Since then Hatton has gone on to fight better fighters that Witter that is a fact and as I have said before when it was offered to Witter Hattons layer said that it was rejected because he wanted a bigger purse when lets face it he wouldnt sell tickets of PPV so didnt deserve a 50/50 split

Hatton never wanted to fight a decent opponent unless he could earn serious money. No point risking his 0 for the sake of pride.

    This is what happened..................

Hatton and Witter were the No 1 and No2 in Britain..............whichever way you want to look at it.

Hatton won and defended a joking world title in front of loads of mugs and his mates at his local arena down the road

Hattons career was a carefully planned out scam where Ricky and Ray Hatton bullshitted the fans that he was their hero and leader of the Manchester people

The goal for Hatton and his Dad and Frank Warren was to squeeze as much money as they could out of the mug manchester faithful and other deluded fans up and down the country

    They had a winning formula:

Hatton V a fighter he would beat easy enough - at local Mancester arena = sell out = £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

They dupilcated this scam time and time again that they built his record up to a unbeaten fighter in something like 40 fights

Hatton was a multi millioniare before he even fought for a proper world title

Witter was a fighter who doing it the proper way - British , Commonwealth, European.

Ray and Ricky didnt want him in the picture becasue he was a danger and could spoil the gravy train.

Ricky bullshitted people - that he woudl fight him - but just kept making excuses.

Ricky went on and won a World title and "left Junior behind"

Until that is Junior won a WBC World title himself.

Hatton made more excuses - cos he didnt want to lose to Junior,

Hatton got monster paydays against Mayweather and Pac and got knocked out.

But before that he had the best part of a decade and over 40 fights - and he never fought Junior Witter once.

However it was easy enough for fights against the likes of Stephen Smith to be made.

Hattons whole career was just a carefully manipulated con of the fans.

He didnt want a proper British fight against Junior - cos if he lost his stock would have gone down - and he would never have been able to be in a postion to have the monster pay days against Mayweather and Pac.

If you think of a strategic plan for making money out of boxing it was excecuted to perfection...

He always tried to tie it in when City were at home... He played the media really well and got the City fans on board too...

All them nights of boxing were great nights out at the boxing and in town afterwards too... Everybody will agree that...:yep

On a financial setting he did it great... This was the platform for him to put himself on the World stage to fight the big names for the big bucks...$$$

As a business out of boxing you can't fault it...:yep

Watching Hatton/Farnell and Gomez at the MEN ranked among some of the best nights out i've had. What an atmosphere we used to generate in the MEN :deal

    Good times

    I agree 100%

It was clever it worked - and he made lots of money.

I agree that Hatton was very successful.

But the issue is about him ducking Witter.- which he did.

    Bad style match-up for Hatton.

Witter would have kicked his ass, hence avoidance.
