Yeah but I think it did the opposite, his head seemed to go down when he knew he was so far behind going into the 2nd half of the fight with a point deduction.

It's going to effect guys differently depending on their mentality/personality, so I would rather see it removed so as not to potentially give a fighter an edge he wouldn't have had.

Maybe they should make it that the corners have access to the scoring throughout the fight and they can use their judgement on whether they let their man know. It would also help them strategise better and if they see something amiss in one judges scoring throughout the fight it could weed out the dodgy judges.

    It's shite.

The only way it can be good is if the cards are level after 8 rounds - because then the fighters would have an extra incentive to go at it.

This is the only benefit I can think of in using the system.

But that said, scorecards are always published, usually a RBR as well.... and the whole thing is pretty subjective.

Plenty of cards lately have been dodgy, Williams 119-110 Martinez is crazy, McDonnell 117-112 Napa equally so.

Jerry Roth gave three of the first four rounds to Felix Trinidad against De La Hoya, and Eugenia Williams gave Holyfield the 5th in the first fight against Lewis, despite him being hurt on a few occasions and hardly landing a punch.

The same Jerry Roth who gave the fight to Shumenov last week 115-113 :yikes

There isn't an emoticon on here to show my displeasure at Patricia Jarmen's 117-111 card !!

Yeah that's good point. Agreed on Demarco as well...he also seemed to feel he couldn't hurt Valero so caved in mentally. Although saying that he must of known he was down by a fair bit on cards...he wasn't doing enough to win rounds..maybe the first round he may of nicked.

Well, the idea was that is the judges had to announce their scorecards every 4 rounds there'd be less crooked decisions coming in, and I think we've seen enough of this in the last year to agree boxing needs something to improve the standards of judging, but it's proven a failed experiment. Sam Peter giving up after hearing he was so far behind he couldn't win without a knockout being a prime example of the short comings of the scheme.
