What by juicing him up? Another outstanding performance by Valero last night, worth ever bit of hype he's had. It was literally edge of the seat stuff as DeMarco looked like Valero's punches were having absolutely no effect and the Showtime commentry team kept saying that he was a late starter in fights. Great fight that turned into a one-sided beatdown.
Sick of all the Roach talk, the are other first class coaches out there. People read into what he has done with Pac way too much and forget the other fighters he has trained and failed with etc. Hopkins vs Joe C Probs to Valero, looks the bizz
That was an awesome fight. I almost went to bed but really glad I stayed up for it. Valero has really good raw talent and instincts. He completely turned the fight over from having a hard time landing and it being a close fight to him absolutely dominating and showing great defense and movement as well. He showed good patient and a warrior heart as well dealing with that nasty gash. When I first saw it I thought they would stop the fight or atleast within a few rounds. He has so much natural abilities there already, with a really great trainer he can certainly be in the elite for years to come. Very exciting guy, heard the name a lot but this was the first I saw him fight.
Looked average, continued to show many weaknesses. He's an exciting fighter though so props for that.
I was alot less impressed than you guys. I mean DeMarco is not the supreme boxer you are making him out to be. He gets hit, alot.
I've always liked Valero as a fighter. Upon hearing of him I, like many of you, immediately Youtubed him and saw a crude, punishing brawler. However, this was my third time seeing him live (TV) and since the Pituala fight I've been sold. I remember seeing his prefight movements and footwork and saying "ahhh, yeah... the V-nom is for REAL!" That fight only lasted a round and a half but if you watch you'll see subtle glimples of greatness, as well as a method to his madness. The mere thought of Valero-Bradley has my mouth watering. He'll merk anybody else at 140 tho'. People are really calling for Katsidis? I like the Aussie but Mike would be lucky to see the 6th round against Valero, and I think I'm being extremely generous in 6!!! Quote me on that one. Khan, Marquez, Ortiz, Maidaina, and Urango all fall to Edwin. Only two even fading Valero are Alexander and the afforementioned "Desert Storm." With the emergence of Valero, Gamboa, and Pacquioa, coupled with the Floyd Shane bout and the James Kirkland release, 2010 is looking pretty damn awesome in my eyes!
Yer man was at a decent level and Valero looked really good. He's starting to look like he might live up to all the hype. Would like to see him take another step up in competition in the next fight.
my understanding is he's basically been training himself since the medical suspension in America. He does need a good coach to fine tune his defense. I think he will improve from this fight. His two toughest opponents were mosquera and demarco, and both were tough early, but valero took over in the middle rounds. he has that mentality where he tries to see if you can take his power early. if you can't, then he blows you away. if you can, then he steps back and starts boxing.
that cut was bad. he did not let it affect him at all. boxed very well and showed he has what it takes to be a champion. i am now officialy a edwin velero fan.
i think valero would be unsettled against katsidis. katsidis' workrate is way beyond anything valero has encountered. valero will also be put out of his comfort zone by katsidis because katsidis wouldn't be intimidated by king kong let alone valero. they r huge factors that people r dismissing lightly. katsidis has improved his defense whereas valero still has terrible defence at times. considering katsidis' workrate i think people r forgetting how often valero would get hit. he would get hit more in 1 round by katsidis than demarco hit him in the whole nine rounds of their fight. sure kats would cop plenty too, but with the above taken into account it makes it far from a one-sided fight. would be a ripper of a fight no matter who wins.
i can't wait to watch the fight. i've been tough on valero before as i've never been impressed by him in the least but from what i've heard about last night, i might have spoke to soon. i'll give him another look
