Hatton against Witter. Another thread, but...

I think it ws at a sports dinner event.

but the fans would have paid to get a seat at the dinner

Ricky would be having a fee anyway for turning up

But despite being well paid he finds another excuse to squeeze more money out of his fans

think - if someone has gone to the trouble to pay for a dinner event with Ricky - then they probaly want their photo with him too

he also got away from the event as quick as possible - and didnt want to stay and chat with the fans he "loves"

Also you have to fork out £20 if you want Ricky to sign anything - a boxing glove a t-shirt a hat, a poster, etc, etc

 

Yeah, but that extra money isn't going into Hatton's pocket - that money will go to the organisers of the event. Hatton will get his fee and that's it.

 

Maybe he gives the money to charity.....

According to the people who were asked for their £20 and £50 notes after making a request to get near to Ricky.

 

I'm just stating what will (in most cases) happen. It's not Hatton's decision to get people to spend more money when at the event - it is the organiser's decision to charge people for it, and if it makes cash sense then they are going to do it.

 

Actually lads without wanting to keep slagging Hatton off again. The thing you are all thinking of is the 'all-star-signings' kind of thing where the stars are all at stalls and like BB said you pay to get photo's and items signed at £20 per pop.

The lad who said Hatton was charging £20 a photo said it was at a doo (I think a speech or something). No indication to say it was for charity or anything and i'm 99% certain he said that whoever was with Hatton was just sticking it all in his pocket.

Not sure if it IS true however thats what he said

If he donates the money to charity I don't have a problem with it.

If the money goes into his back pocket that reflects badly on him, and he should rightly be criticised.

As I've said before, the 'Man of the People' persona that he revels in so much actually appeared (from the outside) to be genuine until the Castillo fight. After that, it was Ricky Hatton this, Ricky Hatton that etc.... and outwardly at least has become this arrogant, deluded wanker full of excuses.

Obviously the truth lies somewhere in between, but I am suspicious of someone that bangs on constantly about being ''normal'' that goes out of their way to prove those credentials..... then APPARENTLY charging £20 for a photo.

 

It was prior to Hattons fight with Magee.

I cant remember exactly read it in a boxing news/monthly but Warren offered the fight to Witter (Magee) and the winner would fight Hatton.

Witter turned it down to fight Alan Bosworth i think and Magee went and ko'd Thaxton.

 

But in 2001 when Hatton beat Rowland, Rowland was considered the number 1 in the division according to most boxing magazines.

In 2001 Witter opponents combined record was 39-46-5, not very impressive is it.

Then in 2002 Hatton fought Magee who was regarded as the number 2 in the division.

Witter at this point upped his comp and defeated Lauri, but again his competition is pretty mediocre, Bosworth 15-10-2, Hammond 13-2, Sambo 14-2-1 and obviously Lauri.

In 2003 Hatton fought Phillips, Rio and Tackie, Tackie and Phillips had just fought the number 2 at 140 Sharmba Mitchell, Hatton fought them in their next fight after Mitchell.

At the same time Witter had only just captured the EU title, and after that went on to fight the deadly Kinuthia.

In 2004 Hattons career stangnated and Witter defended his titles and in 2005 Witter struggled to beat Ndou whilst Hatton beat Tszyu.

What im getting at is that it is a myth that Witter was the number 2 in the division from 2000-05.

Maybe from 03 onwards but his competition was pretty shitty whilst Hatton was being built to go for legitimate world honours, i.e. WBC,WBA,IBF,WBO not the WBU.


After they both won world titles the fight could have been made but the problem is Witter had and still has no fan base outside of Icemax, Scurlantings and D-Mac oh and Betty.

Whilst Hatton was selling out stadiums and was looking for the big fights to atleast attempt to form somesort of legacy (which kind of backfired).

 

Yes but Hatton was looking ahead. so to speak of the UK.

Also i thought Hatton beat both Phillips and Tackie in much better fashion than Mitchell.

Witters comp did start to improve in 2003, but again it wouldnt warrant a shot at Hatton by the US, who remember only knew Witter from his shocking performance against Zab.

And also i cant recall many people outside of the wincobank gym clambering for the fight in 2003.
