Yep $6million (+$6 for every PPV buy over 600,000).. links below

It's not common knowledge, as people seem to like the idea Oscar ducked Winky. Winky in his own words has said he turned down a fight with Oscar, for what would've been a career-high payday.

This was in 2005 when Winky was at his peak (having beaten Mosley x2 and giving Tito a boxing lesson).

Winky said it wasn't enough and Oscar offers everyone 10-15million. A guy like Mosley, who Winky made his name off, only made 4million and 4.25 in his fights with DLH. Mosley was far more popular than Winky ever was.

Before the proposed fight with DLH, Winky had made 750k vs Mosley (Mosey got 2.1million), 1.6Million for the rematch (Mosley got 2million) and 4million vs Tito (Trinidad got 10million). He didn't go close to ever making $6million. He later made 2million vs Hopkins (Hopkins made 3million)

It's funny, $6million was the ridiculous amount he would later demand to fight Calzaghe. You think he regrets it? :rofl

Winky is an excellent fighter but he always thought more of himself in terms of what he generated in interest than was really the case. He's not the first and certainly not the last to do that. Oscar wasn't a ducker by any stretch of the imagination when you look at his career it's name after name after name fight.

We know, Winky is a stingy mofo and it has cost him big.

He refused $5 mill for the Taylor rematch. After losing to Hopkins was offered fights with Abraham and Kessler but he refused it, then uses the race card as to why he doesnt get big fights.

Now after losing one-sidingly to Williams a year ago this joke wants HBO to feature him?!

It's kind of a shame he's got that mentality, isn't it? He's been such a good fighter. One of the best 154-pounders of the past 20 years, imo. Abraham would've caused early senility though, probably. I'm glad he passed that one up.

Quite a few months back now i told someone this but it seemed far fetched... and the oscar interview on youtube that i would normally use as my source was gone so i dont think anyone believed me, thank you for this as i had always just heard reports and from oscar, not from winky himself. :good

Say what you like about Oscar but the man was willing to fight anybody.

This was stupidity of the highest order from Winky - that was the best offer he was ever going to get to fight anyone. He also rejected Abraham and Kessler a couple of years back. I hate it when he cries about being avoided - he made his be, now he can lie in it.

It just made me realise that I never appreciated Oscar enough while he was boxing, that guy wanted to fight everybody.

I remember when it happened, reading it on B-Talk, and on boxing forums fans were blaming Shaw for turning it down, wanting Winky to leave him. After that you didn't hear any more on it. I mean peole always bring up Winky turning down 5million for a Taylor rematch, but this no-one seems to know about.

So when someone says that Oscar ducked Winky and you tell them about Winky turning down 6million to fight Oscar they call you crazy, I know. Links are hard to come by being it happened 5 yeas ago. Anyway came across one of them by accident with the figures and thought I'd search for the B-scene interview which I knew about and post it on here so people can know the truth.

I believe that every fighter has about 3-5 poor decisions of fights they elected to take or fights they turned down...for what-ever reason.

And for some fighters (Especially Winky) it "BY NO MEANS" harms the status of him being an ELITE-LEVEL fighter throughout his career. In fact, what Winky has done is nothing short of REMARKABLE!!!!

His was not some Hyped up kid (Oscar, Floyd, Lacy, Vargas...etc) throughout Amatuers and Olympics. He is/was a SELF-MADE FIGHTER.

And poor decision or bad advice will never take away from that Fighter that Winky was.

He made a bad decision and some poor choices...SO WHAT!!!!!

Certainly elite in his time, but the so what part is easily answered. Because he keeps insisting that there's bias against him preventing him from earning his living. Because he's black, because he's not Mexican, because he doesn't want to get hit. When in reality, he turns down offers routinely because he overrates himself. Yes, excellent fighter. It's just the outright bull**** claims when he is the one turning good offers down.

This was not to bash Winky. He was a great fighter, paid is dues more than most. I read he was fighting for $5000 purses as far as 25 fights into his career.

He maybe deserved the big pay day he was after to fight Oscar, but realistically $6million and a % of the PPV was fair offer.

Those claiming Winky was one of the fighters Oscar ducked need to take him off that list.

i think this post is more about defending oscar and not cutting down winky wright, because their are a lot of idiots on here that believed oscar ducked wright, so stop being so defensive, the major problem with winky is that he is not nearly as avoided as he claims to be, he prices himself out of fights because he isnt a fraction of the draw that he has manipulated himself to believe, wright is a great boxer but wright is not exciting by any
stretch of the imagination he is the antithesis of exciting in fact. he has mismanaged his carreer from a financial gains standpoint horribly, and im not goint to take away from his ability he truly has atg defensive skills, but he is not this avoided feared fighter that he believes he is. Like other posters have said, reading this article made me realize how truly amazing DLH was that guy is a true throw back he wanted to fight everyone

oscar didn't duck no one, that shows in his resume, but winky wasn't really the fight that oscar was interested in when he could fight superstars such as floyd and pac. winky refused quite a few top fights, which was strange considering there was millions of dollars on the table for each of those fights.

Ok...So what we (you guys) have established is that Oscar was an ATG that was willing to fight ANYONE, ANYPLACE AND ANYTIME!!!!

And Winky was a not-so exciting fighter who simply priced himself out of fights and mis-mangaed his career...Right?

    Ok...Point Made and Point Taken.
