A black LHW that fought during the same era as many Row members, and beat the likes of Archie Moore (dead in his prime by first round KO), Jimmy Bivins, and Row member Bert Lytell. Along with former LHW contenders like Oakland Billy Smith (TKO3), Fitzie Fitzpatrick (twice by KO), and former HW contender Arturo Godoy by 10th round TKO, while outweighed by 23 pounds.

Anyone have any info on this guy outside of his record? He interests me at the moment.

I looked into it one time. I think his career tailed right off prety quick with a lot of losses TO NOBODYS. the guy had talent it just made me wonder if there was somthing going on if you know what i mean. something bogus?

His overall record was 28-8, not the model of consistency but based on his record he must've had some talent. I've heard, only heard mind you, that Moore threw the first fight. Not sure as to how legitimate that claim actually is, though. His losses afterward were in rematches to Moore (by 10th round TKO) and Bivins, as well as a third round KO loss to Harold Johnson.

The only "nobodies" you could say he lost to were Colion Chaney and the last fight of his career to HW Billy Gilliam, who outweighed him by 17 pounds. Not really nobodies, but definitely short of elite. Foxworth, who KO'd him in 4, was pretty highly regarded at the time as a puncher, though his career was cut short due to a detached retina after that fight.

His first round knockout of Archie Moore - from what I read somewhere many moons ago - happened as a result of Arch coming out and extending gloves as a mark of respect (a touch em up type thing) and as he did so - Morrow totally suckered punched him and then KO'd him - apparently in the rematch Moore tortured him - hurting him early and then dragging it out purposely to make him pay for the cheap shot the first time around - apparently he really made him suffer in that rematch - I would be interested to get confirmation reports on this too though because I know Moore was prone to the occassional white lie.

moore was a facsinating legend. he did tell tall tales, but often his life was so amazing he should have just stuck to the truth and it would still be amazing.
special potions from which docters, the fable about the extra seconds that robbed him of the title against marciano were the talleset tales of all!! the number plate he wore in his trunks etc..so many tales!!

From what I understand, he "shook up the world" with his big upset KO over Moore, before which he wasn't really thought of as all that much. He showed notable power in other fights (such as his stoppage of Billy Smith), but overall was not really considered one of the truly elite LHWs of the time from what I can gather.

I've been searching for a while and can only find articles which describe him as an 'opponent'. Their is little to no explanation of the Moore fight other than The Ol' Mongoose torturing him in the rematch.

Shame, an interesting fighter is Morrow by the looks of it. Are we right to assume the win over Moore was not legit?

Recently got Archie Moore's auto-biography, which is an interesting read, incidentally.

It mentions Morrow in very little detail but it is interesting all the same.

'I had another fight I am ashamed of and that was against Len Morrow, the second time I fought him. In our first fight, I landed a low punch and extended both arms in apology. While I was wide open he threw a sneak right hand shot that hit me square in the kisser. A year later I fought him in Toledo and punched him into the hospital. In the seventh round I knew I had him and I could put him away at any time. But I was mean and angry at him, so I waited until the tenth. But I was a little too mean. He got concussion and nearly died. He has never been any good in the ring since then. I'm sorry for that.'

To me it looks like a fighter getting a win out of his level then suffering the repercussions and it ruining him as a fighter.
