Not to complain but combinations look faster in better quality. Just saying... .

 

Have loads of Liston's fights - and he was much faster than George - both of hand and foot and a much better boxer - Liston was just as immense but he also had some smarts - he was a dreadnought. - Foreman was frightening himself aswell no doubt but I'd certainly say Liston was much the better fighter really.

 

Liston and partly because he sees openings quicker and hits more compact but you should have put up the Williams fight instead as hes quicker then

liston to for me, big george dont help himself on the hand speed stakes a lot of his punches are wide so a seem slower anyway and his jab appears lazy at times as if uniportant to himself which no doubt it was

 

I never bought the myth of Liston beeing slow, he is no Ali but he is not slow.

 

The only myth is that he is faster than Foreman.

 

Liston ,and I think he was allready slightly past prime,this was 62,compare to his first fight with Cleveland Williams in 59.
Liston better handspeed ,power comparable, Liston better boxer,Foreman better at cutting off the ring.

 

Its not a massive margin in my opinion. It always amazes me to see how wide Georges punches were a big technical no no. Notice also how much he pushed off Frazier, something that would never be allowed in todays rules.

 

Liston has fairly quick hands it was his feet that were slow.

 

Well, upon first view, Foreman seems faster but lets not confuse ourselves here, Foreman was a come-forward slugger, obviously his shots will appear to be faster and more explosive. Liston was more of a scientific fighter. His crouch stance limited him from showing how fast he truly could have been, had he possessed a different style. He has great punch placement, whereas Foreman just wails away a lot of times. I mean, it worked for Foreman against most, just as much as being a methodical scientific boxer-puncher worked for Liston against most.

I cant decide. I'm gonna go with Liston. When he does show flare, his speed is revealed. He might not be as explosive, but he is faster. Although I can see an argument for Foreman. Depends which 2 fights are shown, I guess.

 

Liston seems to be more strategic. Foreman is really winging a lot of those punches.
George threw so many at Frazier, the inevitable was sure to happen. George does appear quick, even with the wide punches, because he(George) is obviosly in great condition. When George was heavy, those wide punches were quite slow, as in his comeback.

 

Liston in his prime was faster. That is what matters.

Post Ali, Liston really slowed down, and during the mid to late 60's the young Foreman to me looked faster.
