Sorry if this has been done before. So we all know that the lineal championship can only be earned in the ring and is lost when the champ: a, loses b, retires c, moves to another weight division Now what happens if the champ moves to another weight division for a short time but then moves back to his original weightclass? Or what if he retires but then starts boxing again? To be more specific, let's take Erdei for example. I know there are some who dipsute his claim to the LHW lineal title, but this is not the question now. He was the lineal champ at LHW and he never lost it inside the ring. He moved up to CW where he beat Fragomeni for the WBC title but he never wanted to stay there so he said he wants to move back to LHW. Is he still the lineal champ?
Erdei is the greatest coward in boxing. This chump milked the WBO for years and years without fighting a single wortthy challenger. NO ONE cares about him and no one will.. for as long as he will remain a coward. Chad Dawson is the true light heavyweigh champ. Andrey
Erdei never was the lineal champ, example fail. The Lineal title is passed down by defeat, significant movement by the lineal champ, unification, retirement, etc. The Lineal champ does has a hold on the lineal title as long as nobody else made significant moves to take the title. For example, should the lineal champ move out of a division or retire, and while he is gone the division is unified the lineal champ that retired is no longer the lineal champion. Should he return and this has not occured, he is still the champion IMO.
there is no lineal champ at LHW right now. calzaghe was it...(he beat hopkins, who beat tarver, who beat jones.) every now & then a lineal champ can hold in 2 divisions, but if they choose to vacate to fight in another division, then decide to come back, they will not still be lineal champ, having decided to vacate originally.
Once a person retires, he loses the lineal, whether he comes back or not. Examples: Mayweather, V. Klitschko Once a person officially moves up in weight class, he loses the lineal, whether he comes back or not. Erdei is a good example, as he said he was moving up to cruiser and actually vacated, then changed his mind. However, if someone never actually says he's moving, then he doesn't lose it until he vacates or it becomes apparrent they can't make the weight anymore. Thus, for example, Tomasz Adamek is still officially lineal cruiserweight champ, but probably won't be for long. Another example is that Ricky Hatton kept his 140 lineal championship when he moved up to fight Collazo. For the people above who say Erdei was never lineal, please pay better attention. Virgil Hill vs. Henry Maske created a lineal championship BEFORE Roy Jones Jr. had even moved up to light heavyweight. Michalczewski beat Hill, Gonzalez beat Michalczewski, Erdei beat Gonzalez. Simple as that. Those guys just never ended up being Ring champ due to a glitch where they didn't put out rankings for a while.
SO the question is ... who beat Jones to become linear champion in the first place ??? I guess that was HBO camera man who came by to ring with the other cab driver :rofl:rofl:rofl IF however your theory is true then was Floyd Mayweather still linear champion fighting Hatton? According to you Floyd should lose his linear title by moving up to 154lb and fighting DLH over there ... is there any difference between Floyd and Erdei? Also considering that Jones Jr in some miracle way beat virtually Michalczwski in his own dream to become linear champion ... was he still linear champion after he moved up to HW and beat Ruiz over there, or should he lose this title then?
Right. Is Adamek lineal champ because, after Haye vacated, being #2 in the division and defeating #1 Cunningham? Floyd never vacated (until after Hatton that is). Fighting Oscar at 154 was a one-off and he always planned to return to 147 afterwards.
When he retired, he lost the championship, but that's correct, until he retired he was the champion. Difference between Floyd and Erdei is that Erdei put out a press release saying he was vacating and moving up to cruiserweight. So he vacated. Wouldn't break my heart if people thought he was still the champ though, since the press release was just a ploy by Universum to get Braehmer a full title.
Erdei said before his fight at CW this will be a onetime showing. He had to vacate he WBO title for Brähmer, thank Universum for that, but that does nott effec the lineal championship. :good
Erdei vacated his WBO title, I don't think this automatically extend to the linear title ... this tile is not relevant to any particular ABCD belt. I haven't seen any information related to his will to move permanently to CW. Sure 'maybe' Erdei was planning to stay at CW but this is debatable, the true is he didn't stay at CW and he is moving back to LHW in the very next fight same as Floyd after Oscar.
