    Straight right hands baby!

Plant your back feet, push off it and nail the ****er on the point of the chin with a straight right curving into a right cross.:nut

Why? The Hook is a little harder to land on the south paw, but the right cross is not..

Conventional wisdom says so,but all southpaws are not the same .

For example Henry Cooper had no trouble landing left jabs and hooks on Karl Mildenberger.Though Ali found the German puzzling for a few rounds.
Cooper's right hand was rarely used ,whereas Ali's was his heaviest shot.

Stick to moving to your right because they lead with the right foot and pop em with straights. And you can watch Hopkins I think he is something like 12-1 against southpaws so that should help.

Kevin Finnegan allways did well with southpaws,as close fights with Minter show,he also gave Hagler decent scraps before cuts ended things, the reason was he had had so much experience sparring wih his elder brother Chris a cagey lefty himself.

Thats right, he even hurt Minter with well placed right hands. Will add him to the watch list.

    Indeed it is.

Just watched Pacquiao vs marquez 1 and noticed soemthign very important.

When you box a southpaw your distance and range is slightly altered. Your jab does not give you the same reflection of your distance as it does when boxing an orthodox opponent. You have to alter every punch slightly to adjust to the variation of your opponents distance and this is where good footwork is necessary, as balance is essential. In fact this altered range is the most difficult aspect to deal with, with southpaws IMO.

What Marquez did superbly was stayed balanced. He altered his range towards Pacquiao by slightly leaning back but keeping a wide-ish base and as Pacquiao came in with his distance slightly altered, Marquez was able to lean forwards again and land his right hand on the on rushing Pacquiao.

Another thing Marquez did well was to keep his left foot INSIDE Pacquiao's left foot and then fire his jab upon which he stepped his foot on the outside of Pacquiao's allowing him to set up his right hand whilst working of the jab. Cunning little trick.

Will definitly try these ideas out in sparring.

If anyone is interested I tried these out in sparring and they worked well, balance, positioning and range seems to be the key to boxing a southpaw

Not a bad idea though really, with a little elaboration, which sometimes yourr one-line quips (before exiting without a trace) sometimes only hint at :rofl

Greg, just do a Moon/Chang on him and walk straight through anything he does, steam into him and keep throwing. At least you'll stunt his workrate, and if you can keep it up for the 3 it's in the bag:good

i am a southpaw, and the straight right hand never was much of an issue for me. i am very defensive minded though.
