Id say Khan stands a good chance of beating any of the current top 140lbs fighters (that dosent mean id make him a favourite in all of them) but I would rather see him face Maidana a young contender than Marquez whos really a LW. Khan has already beaten Kotelnik who beat Maidana but dosent have Kotelniks chin which makes it interesting. Im no fan of Khan but wouldnt bet against him beating Bradley, Khans punch resistance may be a bit better now hes moved up and Bradley only won a split dec against Witter (I thought Bradley was a close UD) was put down twice to win close against Holt, get a No Dec against Campbell, but did soundly beat undefeated but untested Peterson whilst Khan soundly beat Kotelnik and blasted out undefeated but untested Salita. But I think Khan is looking for a big payday against Hatton
****ing hell, how many times have we got to go over the same **** khan has said himself hes not ready for bradley, whats wrong with the guy trying to make a name for himself in america with a legend and a top 10 p4p in JMM haters cant have it both ways, saying khan will get beat by JMM then say hes taking the easy option fighting him... end of the day he knows himself he needs more fights under his belt before fighting certain LWW's youve all said yourselves he has a glass chin, so why would he want to risk everything when if he takes his time he could have so much more ****ing get over it, the lad wants to fight someone who mayweather has just taken on points at a higher weight, how that can get him slagged off is beyond me
How many guys at 140 do you think can beat Kahn? I can name the following: 1. Bradley 2. Madiana 3. Ortiz 4. Paulie 5. Funeka (if he moved)
can? yeah definitely some of them "can." That doesn't mean they will. Bradley and Funeka would be his toughest challenges. I definitely think he can hang with Maidana and I see Khan blasting Ortiz.
I can understand if you say that in like 18-24 months time and he hasn't fought anyone of note by then. But damn give the boy a chance. He has only just won the belt and fought his MADATORY. Take a chilli pill son, he has ducked no one so far. What you want him to do, fight everyone in a week. Lets see who he does fight in the next 18-24 months and then you might have a case.
Khan really should be taking the Maidana fight. Not obly would he be a deservedly huge favourite in the fight, but it would help Khan get over some of his demons. Personally, I'd like his year to pan out with fights against Maidana, Prescott (I think Khan beats him over the distance if he keeps his defence tight), and only then does he DESERVE a shot at the division's elite, who I suppose are Bradley, Malignaggi and the Urango-Alexander winner. Khan has a helluvalot of talent and a lot of heart. For an elite fighter, a truly dreadful chin. Hopefully he has the talent, speed, power and fleetness of foot to protect that chin. I think, with Roach's help, he might just have enough. but he needs to forget about lightweights, until if and when Mitchell proves himself and then moves up in a couple of years. A lot is expected of Khan, and rightly so given his talent and the way he lit up the '04 Olympics. But he needs to live up to that expectation by defeating a mandatory that is perceived as dangerous because of his own weakness (if it was, say, Junior Witter, I'd have no problem with Khan moving on elsewhere) and then avenging his brutal defeat.
Prior to losing to Mayweather, Marquez was the first man to stop Diaz and Casamayor. At 37 ,before his loss to Mayweather was considered top 3 p4p best fighter, now suddenly how is he old and shot? Besides, Mayweather came in over 147lbs. Marquez cant make 135. If Marquez is 37, Mosely is 38 due to be fighting Mayweather age cant be used as an excuse here. All this complaining about Marquez-Khan is nothing more than laying the ground for excuses should Khan win.
All valid points, but bear in mind that at 135 he had to change his style quite a bit - I think even that weight is a little big for Marquez. He has no business at 140 or 147, PBF just wanted to make a statement by taking on JMM about how a Pac fight would turn out. when PBF beats Mosley don't think for one second that age won't be used as an excuse.
Mosley hasn't shown any significant effects of aging so I would hope that excuse isn't used either but you're right it will be used. Sure, Marquez isn't in his peak but he is still one of the best. We dont know if doesnt belong at 140 because we havent seen him fight at 140. I don't think Marquez is looking to campaign at 135 or lower, he cant make that weight. Besides, if at 135 he can knock out both Diaz and Casamayor, how can you say he doesnt belong at 135lb?
It isn't about whether or not Marquez is shot or not, it's about the matchup you ****. A small counterpuncher who's old and lost his footspeed against a rangy guy like Khan. It's a recipe for Khan boxing safely on the outside all fight. Khan should take the Maidana fight. Why wait? If he's going to call himself a champion he's got to be willing to take on guys like Maidana. There just aren't many favorable matchups for him at 140 and eventually he's going to have to face some of these durable hard punchers.
