Obviously coming from Cuba you're going to rate Casamayor and Gomez higher than they really were. But you're right, let's see how these new wave of Cuban defectors settle in as pro's. I see Solis going the way of Jorge Luis Gonzalez, but the others have hope.
hernandez was good i really liked him a lot he was quick and had great boxing ability and with his size i thought he couldve done good at the pro level.. he was cocky too i saw that fight against byrd and byrd tought he was the **** and ariel hernandez kicked his ass and was taunting him also.. but who knows i saw juan carlos gomez in the amateurs and he looked great and fast also and didnt do **** in the pros... well he did ok he was a champion but he wasnt the superstar i thought he couldve been :hat
Juan Carlos Gomez was a star when he was at cruiserweight. Remember he defended his title 10 times and was undefeated in more than 35 fights. He was begging for unification fights at that time, but was avoided like hell. He was very unlucky, partly due to his own stupidity(or life style, or both) and couldn't settle properly after he left Universum. There was a long period when he was constantly changing managers(Universum, Leonard, de Cubas, Öner, ...), and trainers(Sdunek, Roach, what is the name of Ali's trainer??,Cuellar, etc). He lost a lot of time in that period. Had to get up twice in the WBC ranks until getting a shot at the title. It was too late for him ...
