These three are growing quie a bit on me over the last few weeks. What's your ranking/oppinion of/on them? Is it justifiable o rank Canzoneri the highest of these three?
I'd say any ranking can be justified, but off the top of my head I'd have Canzoneri and Ross 11 and 12 respectively and McLarnin at 16. I'm delving into these guys even more by the day, just brilliant fighters, all with their own individual style, all durable, all top 20 ATG's.
They are amazingly evenly matched although I am inclined to rank Ross the highest due to his superiority over the era until Armstrong came. I did think he asserted his controll of the era by beating McLarnin & Canzoneri among others. Although Canzoneri absoloutly amazes me and he is my favrouite of the lot.
Mine too. I also rate Ross higher but I look for arguments to push Canzoneri above him, if here are any.
I agree with either is justified. McLarnin is one of my all time favs, his resume is top class. He finished his career on a high, bowing out by avenging the Canzoneri defeat & beating Lou Ambers, this after his trilogy with Ross an knocking Young Corbettt lll out in the first round. I've been a fan since watching his rubber match with Ross on and old VHS i have tucked away somewhere. 'fantastic fights of the century' an learning he was born a few miles from were i was born. He rised through a few more weights than the other guys. Tho I would like to get my hands on some more footage of the other two.
Aye, you will enjoy them. Canzoneri is such a great fighter to watch and dare I say it at times looks better than Ross.
They are the Fistic Trinity. The supreme representatives of the great, three-way ethnic rivalry during the golden era between the Jews, Italians, and Irish. ...And they're really tough to rank.
why is Ross being rank below Canzi?? Ross was 2-0 against him, and won the rematch pretty easy on my card.
I usually have him ranked the lowest TBH. At the very least, I can't see an argument for ranking him above Ross, who was 2-0 against him, has a better record against common opponents, and was more consistent in general.
But Canzoneri was also the naturally smaller man, had more fights and wear and tear when they fought and he climbed more weightclasses. These could be arguments.
Three great, fighters in an age of great competiton....I agree Canzoneri was the lightest of the 3, and I am certain , that since the incomparalble Benny Leonard ,Canzoneri in prime, along with Armstrong,Ross. Ike Williams, Duran, and ,yes Shane Mosely, were the best lightweights...In person Ike Williams, when allowed to, was the best lightweight, since Canzoneri, at ringside, that I,ve seen...Murderous puncher was Ike......
