Ok Flamer...this is what I know about Bill Farnan....he only fought in black and white days......he worked in a foundary during his boxing career....He had a great punch in both hands.....he was a brawler....however he was slow as his major flaw....he had a 75% KO ratio so they say...he was a short ass and 120 years ago he fought the HW champ of AUST wacko Jacko....he stopped him with body shots in the 4th to win the title

He died young burried in the Melbourne general cemetery. Also buried in that cemetery are some other notable pugilists, such as Dan Creedon, Starlight Rollins, Bill Lang, Walter McGowan, Tut Ryan and Archie Kemp.

Bill was the first Australian Heavyweight Champion under Marquees of Queensberry rules.

Oh and you cant find that **** on toutube or wickepeda:tong

I remember reading a book about bad dudes etc from australias early history and there was a mention of a heavyweight bareknuckle boxer that was a real ****, used to get blind and smash everyone, root like a demon etc. from memory he fought in new orleans for world title and got arrested for disorderly conduct before the fight. Cant remeber his name, can't even remember the name of the book. The book even mentioned that his name has been virtually erased from history because he was such an embarrassment. lol

Woops, I must have had my wires crossed and I think it was actually Albert Griffiths(Young Griffo) not exactly a heavyweight, although he did knock out Jim Corbett in a pub!

Thats the name I instantly thought of goodnight but yeah, was never a heavyweight. Read some great articles on him over the years and although there is rumoured to be footage of him, to my knowledge there isn't any around.

The 'footage' is said to have been a part of the Cayton/Jacobs collection. An exhibition bout with Charles Barnett was filmed... basically 80-100 frames/minute, and veiwable on a revolving set up. Steve Lott claims to have seen the footage and plenty of books make mention of the exhibition being filmed.

Apparantly theres some more 'lost' footage floating around, hopefully it'll turn up one day but I'm not holding my breath.

God what I'd do to the Cayton/Jacobs collection, it'd be public domain within two minutes.
