I think Cooney would take his head off. Besides chin, there is nothing Tex has over Cooney. I see a viscious beating happening.

Cobb knows how to kick-box....... If Cobb were allowed to use his legs, he'd prolly kick Cooney's ass....

If Cobb was landing on Norton like some think he was, Norton would of been put down and out. Norton simply outclassed him.

Look at what Ledoux did not too long afterwards, had Norton falling around like a drunk. Ledoux certainly didn't hit like Cobb could either.

Only thing Tex could do better than Cooney was take a beating and talking ****( He rivals Ali there) in fact even funnier than Ali:lol:.

But that wouldnt help him here. His chin would keep him from getting Kod but Cooney was a much better fighter. I dont even give Cobb a punchers chance, Cooney had a vulnerable chin but if he took Holmes shot for 13 hed take the slower Tex cobbs shots without much problem.

Cooney would put a beating on Cobb and win a wide decision .

No that would have been Cooney vs Coetzee know that would have been a more even matchup, still lean towards Cooney.

Cobb has a good chance of beating Cooney if he can make it past the 6th round.... Cooney would be deadly early on........ Cobb's chin would have to be in tip-top form against Cooney......

Except for a peaking Holmes, Tex was not an easy decision for anybody prior to 1985. In addition to Shavers, he beat the deadly slugger Mercado over ten rounds, forced Dokes to settle for a split decision, and Douglas a majority verdict. He took some monster body shots from Shavers as well as to the head.

Larry said Tex was the strongest man he ever fought. Gerry would have to beat him on the back foot. He has the height, reach and jab to open up an early lead, but would he aim for a points win, or try for a knockout? (After witnessing Cobb/Shavers, I'd expect him to be smart enough to plan a distance fight.) If Gerry went for an early knockout, Tex would stop him late. But if Cooney replicates the conservative approach he used with Holmes, this time it would pay off.

Either way it would've been invaluable experience for Cooney who had never gone past 8 rounds before taking on Holmes. In Randall 'Tex' Cobb we have a man who could have taken him the distance, and made him fight all the way.

I was following Cobb pretty closely back in 1982 during my high school daze / knights..... Hehehe... However, I do know that while Cobb lacked talent and overall boxing skill, he was training his ass off and working on his conditioning and stamina very hard in the gym.... He was also hooked on this excercise of rowing a stationary boat inside the gym.... He claimed it was a great shoulder and arm excercise that would aid his power shots.... Cobb was naturally trained for Larry Holmes in 1982 and in very good shape for that fight...........

Texas Cobb also said that Don King ripped him off on a couple of hundred G's after the fight because the crowd turn-out was under King's liking...... Cobb was suppose to gross $750,000 grand (His biggest check ever) to Larry Holmes' 1.5 million dollar payday, but King later slashed both men's checks almost in half......... Those original figures looked nice at first, considering the fight was televised by national TV without the aid of Cable or PPV.... I think Don King was hoping that Texas Cobb would bring the fans into Houston to see the fight... It didn't happen.... The Astrodome was empty........
