With Sky Sports now having 4 channels to choose from surely to goodness you would hope they might do the right thing and hire Buncey and give us a weekly Boxing Show...:yep

There must be some fishing tournaments or World Chess Championships starting soon...

Is Sky Sports 4 a new channel? I just assumed it was Sky Sports Xtra rebranded.

TV just doesn't work like that.

Sky want people to toe the line and Bunce doesn't do that.

Sky have shown a boxing match every week apart from the xmas and new year break since September, and they have shown the Mega fights in the US free on Sky Sports.

If Boxing made the tv companys money, they would show it more. We should be putting pressure on the sports minister to add boxing to the protescted sports list so that at the very least highlights of world title fights involving british fighters are on tv. And putting pressure on the promoter to put on more competative fights and stronger undercards, and not charging so much for rights so that TV picks up the show.

slagging of sky is going to get us nowhere. they dont need to listen. when Setanta was showing loads of boxing i doubt they lost many subscribers.

ITV would of shown Froch vs Taylor and Froch vs Dirrell if Hennesey wasnt asking for stupid money.

Agree with the sentiments of this. The promoters need to do more of a job of selling a fighter if we want more mainstream involved. Look at the success of people like Hatton and Haye. This was down to massive promotional efforts. Obviously it's more difficult to acheive lower down the spectrum, but still, give a fighter a story, let him show his character and it will draw the crowds.

Find it real hard to put too much criticism on Skys coverage of boxing....

Domestic coverage is fine although a few more Saturday shows would be nice....I'm guessing Pac/Clottey and PBF/Mosely will both be shown free as well as other big US cards....

PPVs are something they need to sort out though......PPVs invloving British fighters are very rarely worth it such as the upcoming Haye/Ruiz fight...but like I said overall I can't put too much fault in them

you gotta realise sky have a budget. they need to fill 672 hours worth of programming a week, so things like fishing and ice hockey are cheap programmes which fill the hours up.

Matchroom sports have a deal with Sky to fill up a certain number of hours on sky with live sport which is at a low cost. They win purse bids for fights that nobody else wants (tonights fight is a perfect example) or put fights on with other promoters on the cheap. it fills up skys calander. they also have the darts which gets mega viewers, snooker, pool and poker.

That's a great post Rob...:yep Your well read on this, more for less seems to be how Sky operate... as do most others...:good

What was the daft money that MH wanted off ITV...:think

Terrestrial TV made the household names legends of British Boxing in the 70's, 80's and 90's...:yep

Where has it all gone wrong...:think

I don't agree with all your views rob, but when it comes to TV you always seem to nail it spot on. At the end of the day, sky are the only broadcaster in this country that actually show regular live boxing (although being pedantic, eurosport do show one card live a month) but everybody is so keen to hate on them. As rob said, boxing just doesn't make cash common sense in this country, otherwise more would be shown.

Plus, these cheap programmes that everybody loves to have a go at. The wacky folk over on the NFL UK forums who think their sport is bigger than these niche sports and are not happy with the airtime they get are the best example, but there are people on here who think the same. These random 30 minute/half hour filler programmes are often given to sky for free, in return for the exposure it gives their sport.

Everybody does this, take Setanta's last live match-an England Under 18 game. The english schools FA gave them the rights for free, as in return they could fill the ad boards around the stadium, as advertisers will have their name seen on TV.

We get a domestic show every friday night-it may not be the best quality some of the time, but again why are sky to blame? Is it not the promoters, matchmakers or the board who sanction these fights? Everybody's favourite channel Setanta showed some dire german cards-and it wasn't their fault obviously-it is what they were given, but nobody criticised setanta. We all blamed Sauerland.

We'd all like more boxing on british TV, but in reality that won't happen unless another company takes the gamble setanta did.

They were brilliant while it lasted BUT they are gone now, and people need to get over the fact that unless it's a massive fight from the states, it won't be shown here. It's a shame, and maybe that'll change in the future. But for now, it won't.

Finch, was aboutto say the same thing about setanta until you did, we miss them, but i think in this financial climate, the t.v. companies are going to go with the sure bets, like football, rugby, and cricket etc.
I don't think it is really that there isn't a resonable crowd out there that would give them viewers, it's just that boxing shows are hard to make any type of profit on.

But as I said, this stuff doesn't cost sky anything, or extremely little compared to a complex outside broadcast like boxing.

I'd prefer to watch boxing than fishing, but there is a world outside of this forum yanoo? Not everybody likes boxing in this world.

It's funny the effect changing the name of a sports channel has. For some reason it seems like there are more sports channels when it's exactly the same as before.
