    Example, Hatton's vs. Cotto's .

Prolonge beatdown is bad to the psyche because fighters tend to become trigger-shy, trying to avoid punching in order not to get one in return.

Quick, brutal beatdown questions your ability to fight at a certain level.

Proplonged beatdown ages the body significantly though, while brutal KO exposes your chin to further testing.

it depends on the way of the quick KO. Sometimes a quick KO can make you say "well in a rematch if he can avoid that shot early in the fight, he can maybe do well" or sometimes it can make you say "he was so outclassed he couldn't even last 2 rounds"

Let's not make it too compplicated. Just your usual run of the mill KO, brutal.

Make it more concrete, Hatton's last two fights versus Cotto's last two fights (losing fights).

Hattons KO because psychologically you don't know what he'll be like coming back to fight.

Hatton's KO loss to Pac was the worst of all. He looked like he shat his pants in there.

I think a fighter getting KO'ed in 1 round isn't as bad as a drawn out beat down. Fighters like Lennox Lewis, Jack Dempsey and Terry Norris have all had early KO losses but proved in other fights they were better than those losses suggested. Anyone can get caught cold but to be consistantly outboxed, outpunched and just generally being dominated suggests you are inferior to your opponent in a number of ways.

Hatton's KO because Cotto was in there at times with Pac(Well...the first round plus teeing off when Superpacman wanted to take his punches, Then the first 6 rounds against Marg) Hatton was in no way in there with Pac. To break it down, a prolonged beatdown can take a more severe effect to the brain because of all those continuous shots while a quick ko is only momentarily though still NOT good for the brain.

Ok Mr.Sunshine:lol:. A quick ko is more damaging to your ego because at least with a beating you are still in the fight even though you're taking alot of punishment.

Both can be equally damaging to a fighter in my opinion, it depends on the fighter also. We have seen guys like Barrera, Morales, Ward and Gatti give so much in the ring, yet they were able to do it again and again, yet Bowe was never the same after the Holyfield fights.

A quick KO loss for a world class fighter has to be pretty devastating to their confidence but it tends to happen while their career is on the decline.

pretty sure you are thinking of two fights

    jones vs slappy joe

    jones vs green

    -------------

jones vs constant lack of contemplation of retirement; is FAR worse than both of the above

Both can be very embarassing and bad for a fighters career but if a fighter gets knocked out early he can always make. the excuse that it was a lucky shot, he got caught cold etc.

A prolonged beating where one boxer outclasses and embarasses his opponent the way Floyd did to Gatti, and THEN knocks him out woul be worse IMO. This would prove that the boxer was in a different league to his opponent and the opponent would have to say "yeah, he's got skills, he's much better than me".

Both are bad. Brutal quick KO can make you gunshy, while prolonged beating you may never recover physically or mentally. I would say prolonged beating is worse.

In terms of Hatton and Cotto. Cotto is much more skilled than Hatton and would still beat Hatton now. The only thing Hatton does better as a fighter than Cotto is hold when he is in trouble.
