Just a thought... I was thinking about how Bute and Rigondeaux are always knocking out people to the body with the left uppercut, and it made me think that lefties have that advantage that their power hand is delivered right to the liver when they throw to the body with it.
most defnitely imo its actually a stratergy in BJJ to press ur elbow when r o the ground in to the liver region...
Jirov certianly made it work for him. As a Orthodox fighter throwing the left to the body there comes natural and there is plenty of oppertunity too.
Good question. Yes it is an advantage, and it is defenitly a tool any decent soutpaw should use(and abuse).
On the other hand their right side is their forward side making it easier for an orthodox puncher to land a liver blow on a southpaw than on another orthodox puncher, so it cuts both ways.
i think that it's definitely a big advantage granted a fighter knows how to exploit it. i've seen some pretty small guys drop some big dudes with solid shots to the liver. that is one area you really don't want to get hit clean by a southpaw.
I dont see where there's such a big advantage. A good fighter more often than not works off his jab........the right side of a southpaw's body actually is exposed when he throws a jab. A conventional fighter can tuck his right elbow in to defend against that shot to the liver, and he can still use his jab which is the best punch to use to set up a power shot.
Well, orthodox fighters rarely fight southpaws, so they generally aren't looking for that punch, whereas southpaws fight orthodox fighters frequently, so they know that it's available and are accustomed to throwing it. But yes, a southpaw is more open to a liver blow than an orthodox fighter.
By default, a southpaw right arm is covering the left side of his body. There is no way its just as easy to hit a southpaw there .
