When i think more about it he should just try and outbox Marshall, I sort of meant that anyway. Nah mean?
You're pissing me off now son! That's not how it works, he'd still be better suited to try and use his footwork and jab than trying to tear into Marshall imo. Robinson can be more mobile than Burley for boxing style anyway. If Burley and Robinson want to outbox a man they do it via different methods. NAH MEAN?
Fair enough, but my thinking is a more tactical and thought out fight gives Marshall time to set himself to counter and generally suits him better. IMO Robinson has to come in with fast combinations change his angle throw a few more change his angle and get away. Thanks
You're welcome Greg. Robinson is great at winning what some call 'snoozefests' as well though, might be a wise option here.
You misunderstood me, either would I but I would say if anyone is going to be knocked out it is Marshall.
Thats fight was an SD though and RObinson isnt much like Burley either and there was only 1 fight to judge it on. Holman Williams was a smaller man who I think won the series against Marsall. How he did it and whether all these fights were on the level is something Im unaware of In fact I seriously wonder how many fights were and werent on the level during this period. We know Cocoa Kid took plenty of bungs. Most the time its unlikely to come to pass how many fights were fixed as it hurts everyones reputation as a result. Blk fighters may have been easier to corrupt as they had little chance of getting title fights anyway
Well, we actually only know that Cocoa Kid took one bung, but I agree with you that it is very likely that he took more. No idea what Marhsall's story was, though there seem to be tales floating around, and i've read that part of the reason Marshall came to Europe nearer the end was he was seen as used up at home, and certain connects were looking for him to tank. True or false, I don't know.
I'm oddly lost on it. Who do you think is the best fighter Sugar fought, GP? Not pound for pound, actually the best man, including size/strength and any other advantages you feel size brings to the table? Who was the best?
It is an intriguing fight and I feel SRR would have to adopt tactics most feel he shouldnt. IE commit with his combos change his angle and back Marshall up. That is a hard one, I instantly thought Jake Lamotta. A super strong Middleweight champion among the top 20 of his weight. Ray stepped up to fight whilst being a Welterweight and Lamotta had a physical style that would be tough for a smaller man. However Kid Gavilan is one guy I rank very high, although I just dont feel he had quite hit his peak when he fougt Robinson and obviously he does not have them size advantages over SRR like Lamotta did. So I would say Lamotta.
You can't truly say. However, I've grown to appreciate the Murderer's Row even more as I've studied them, unlike many who seem to think they may've been a tad overrated on further research. Most of these men seemed like the genuine article; true master technicians. Burley, Williams, Marshall, and Booker especially. Cocoa Kid is still a headache to get a real grasp of, though.
