I think Burley gets too much credit in comparison to the others but I agree that the Murderer's Row are in no way overrated. The small amount of film that we have of these fighters doesn't disappoint.
Burley often does get a lot more credit, but in fairness I do think he was the top dog. This much has been stated by other Row Members, including Booker, who I consider to be the most underrated of the bunch. Would've been great if he and Burley could've squared off at some point.
I think LaMotta is a good shout, though it might be Maxim...anyway, I think Marshall is better than both of those guys. Marshall also has size advantages over Ray. Interesting combintion, that. Agree, and Cocoa Kid is the one. There are some fighters that are just horrible to get a grip off, and he's the ultimate in my opinion. If he hadn't dominated Holman Williams - one of the most accomplished fighters in history - over a monster series, things would be a lot easier.
I did think Maxim but then I thought how little difficulty he actually gave Robinson, I do think Marshall is better than lamotta and Maxim but styles make fights.
Do you think that Marshall's style is one Robinson enjoys an advantage over? I would say he had bits and bobs in common with KG, in terms of taking the edge off his opponent's offense with feints and counter-punching.
I'm not entirely sure. As I have said I think it would be hard for Robinson to 'box' Marshall, and that he would have to let his hands go and Robinson really is better when he lets his hands go - but it appears to be an odd strategy for Robinson to choose. Similar to Gavilan in the feints and counter punching to negate his opponents offence and Robinson struggled with Gavilan so it is a very tricky fight to call.
