I don't think it's out of the question considering Nog's age and ring wear. But you can never count Big Nog out.
No I just cant say it. Nogueira is world class still especially when hes in good shape like the Couture fight. Cain hasnt beat anyone even worth holding Nogueira's jock strap or wraping his hand wraps.
Certainly not crazy, although even if it is lopsided I think it will be more of a high pressure overwhelming than say a violent quick finish. It is really hard to tell exactly how much Nog has left; he did look better against Randy, but is the current Randy really the best test of an aging fighter?
i'm Picking Cain and I'm waiting for Chimba to come on here for an avatar bet. He basically said Cain has no chance so it's time to put your money where your keyboard is.:deal
Fairly even fight I think. It's a big step up for Cain though, and it only takes one mistake against Nog.
Well with 2 KDs, multiple close submission attempts, 2 sweeps over a guy whos pretty hard to sweep it was a hell of a performence. Nog's weight looked alot better in that fight then he did in his 3 previous UFC fights. Nog looked very sharp in that fight.
Honestly, we won't know until after the Cain fight exactly where Nog is at. Can he best two quality fighters in strong fashion in a row? Or is he at the stage where he's gonna swap an excellent performance for a below par (for Nog) performance. This is a crossroads fight for Nog.
Anything is possible in this fight - but I always go with Nogeuira. I think he's returned to form and has adjusted to fighting inside the octagon. This will be Velazquez' trial by fire. If he can get past Nog - he is ready for anyone.
I think Velasquez will have a slight handspeed advantage, which will make things a bit tough for Nog early at least. I don't think that there's any way that Velasquez will want to go to the ground, so a lot of the attacks that he used against guys like Rothwell and Stojnik and Kongo won't be applicable. At that point we'll really get to see what his hands are like since he won't be able to set up his strikes with the threat of takedowns. Keep in mind how badly Nog outgrappled Couture. You can say that Couture's reflexes have worn down and maybe his chin, but on the ground I think he just got beat by a getter grappler. I think Nog is a much more proven and well rounded fighter and Velasquez is bigger and a better athlete, but I'm going with Nog in this one. I think he'll be better and more effective on the feet at the end of the day and if he can hurt Velasquez and get it to the ground then I think he'll win by sub. If not, then UD.
Yes I can see Nog crack him with a good solid 1-2 then Cain shoots in, Nog sprawls and locks up a darce or anchonda choke for the finish. This isnt Cheick Kongo where you can be sleeping yet still take him down and control him.
