Are you kidding? He just tore Antonio Margarito, the guy that everyone avoided, and noone wanted to fight a new *******. I cant think of a better performance or a bigger win in his career since DLH 1. And what do you mean "like Miguel Cotto"?
Was he outboxed or soundly beaten? The fight was very close. Mosley fought well. You people are underestimating Miguel Cotto who is a hell of a fighter. There is no case for Mosley being significantly diminished at this stage of his career, especially coming off of the win he just came off of, not to mention a pretty impressive win over Collazo who is not too shabby himself.
Cotto whilst a respectable champion is a fundamentally flawed fighter. Nearly any great swarmer or puncher in history around the 147 limit would stop him. He is too vulnerable defensively and doesn't have the punch resistance necessary to beat aggressive fighters at that level. You only need a pair of eyes to see that Mosley isn't as good as he once was. A guy who has always relied on his explosive physical traits is never going to be as good once past his physical prime. Your point doesn't actually prove anything. Mosley is on a different level to Margarito, while it was a great win it obviously in no way means he is at his peak, it just means he is much better than Antonio Margarito.
******ED, Foreman is one of my all-time favorites but he was'nt even close at 38 to what he was at 28, he was smarter but that only goes so far. and that doesn't even relate to the topic of sugar shane, he's always been a smart fighter!:hat
This is just crap. Mosley is just as fundamentally flawed as Cotto in his own right. Now your implying Margarito is that far below a 37 year old Mosley and in a different league??? What suggests that Mosley was that much greater??? Please tell me how you can come to this conclusion?? Was it that he looked better winning against Oscar than he did against his recent opponents, or did he look better losing against the likes of Forrest and Wright than he did against Cotto? Cotto has lost two fights, one with big question marks and one against the sports P4P #1 guy. Mosley was competitive in a loss to Cotto but he lost close. Mosley needs to be put in the proper perspective, its not about trying to diminish him before his fight with Mayweather, which is the intention of many in this thread. Forget about his LW career, you cant compare it to his welterweight resume, because there is no talent to compare the two. I actually think Mosley could have probably accomplished a bit more if fought a bit smarter at times earlier in his career. Additionally, I cant imagine Evander Holyfield coming through the second Riddick Bowe fight or the Tyson fight, using the same type of fighting mindset he did in the early part of his career. Sure he was slower more flat footed, a tad shopworn, but he became a smarter fighter and with the help of good boxing minds in his corner, he was able to accomplish some of his biggest wins when everyone wrote him off. Its not only about being at your physical peak, and thats been proven lately by the likes of Evander Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko and Bernard Hopkins.
Were you saying this before the fight? Im not suggesting he is at his physical peak, but hes not a walking deadman either.
I didn't see too many fights with Marg before that. The way Mosley looked against Mayorga though spoke volumes. He's slower, pulls his punches and just isn't slick at all. He even looked bad against Marg, but marg was so slow it didn't hurt Mosley
Mosley was quicker before and had great reflexes and defense. He is still good and has fast hands, but his defense is a little less fluid. So no way is he the fighter he was years ago. Mosley of 2003 would have beaten this Mayweather on points. But the Mosley of 2010 with his ring rust will lose a decision. Even without the ring rust he will probably lose a decision. But it will be interesting at times if he can land some good body punches. That is the only way Mosley can win the fight is to land body punches and try to get Floyd in a more desperation fight. If he can hurt Floyd to the body and make Floyd more desperate and nervous, he will get Floyd out of his gameplan and maybe land some head punches and win the rounds and eek out a close decision. It is possible, but not probable.
Mosley is not as fundamentally flawed as Cotto. His weaknesses aren't anywhere near as distinct/fight threatening. Cotto's defensive liabilities paired with his lacking punch resistance create a very exploitable weakness for anyone with work rate and punch. What suggests Mosley is that much greater than Margarito? Are you serious? For a start when they fought, a past prime Mosley beat seven shades of **** through him. Not to mention Mosley's career body of work is obviously incomparably better. You also contradict yourself, implying that a "37 year old Mosley" has faded, and is on a similar level to Margarito, unless you are suggesting that peak Mosley is on a similar level to Margarito, in both cases you are an idiot. You also don't seem to understand that just because a fighter produces good wins, it doesn't mean they are their peak. Someone like Vitali Klitchko is a poor example, because he clearly is not as good as he once was, beating challengers who are insignificant in the grand scheme of things doesn't prove anything, other than that even in a faded state he is still a superior fighter. He still has the ring generalship (that he has always had), the frustrating pawing jab and great control of range, but he lacks the offensive and defensive sharpness that he had in previous years. Hopkins is an exception, not a rule of reference. He has maintained his physical condition sufficiently (better than anyone in history) to continually apply his skills, this isn't to say he is at his best (he isn't, obviously, though you have proved you are clueless so you probably consider him as good as ever) but he is still able to beat top level fighters. You have been suggesting he is at his peak ability though, as good as he ever was essentially (which is obviously stupid considering he is and always been a fighter reliant on his physical traits, and yet past his physical prime, he is still the same fighter?), don't go back on your word now.
Shane got quick hands but as for overall speed/accuracy, i don't think he is as fast as floyd but hand speed yes.
