Now the WBA have ordered a Chagaev - Meehan eliminator. I wondered what effect his medical status has on his eligibility. If Meehan's promoter wins purse bid could they just choose to stage the fight in a country where they know Chagaev will not pass a medical. Would this mean Chagaev forfeits the match? If this is not the case it is a huge advantage to Chagaev it would mean even if his promoters lose bid his opponente have to fight in Germany anyway.
wrong. meehan has hardly fought on home soil in recent years anyway. his last 2 easy ko wins were in germany. and the 1 before that was at msg in new york. would make no difference at all. as far as medical complications, i don't think meehan is the sort of guy to play like that.
No way is DK going to put up money on Meehan to outdo Universum winning a purse bid for Chagaev. Meehan's a good dude and deserves his shot, but no way does he beat Haye. If the fight happens it'll be in Germany, no worries for Chagaev.
After the second Valuev fight fell through due to Chagaev not passing his medical in Finland due to some sort of remnant of the condition being in his blood. It was widely reported that he would not get a license to box in many countries. It was implied the only major boxing nation he would receive a license was Germany. If this was the case it would be a problem not only for this eliminator but for any future mandatory defence whether he be champion or challenger. I'm just curious about whether anybody knows the rules regarding this scenario as I have never known a situation like this where a world class fighter was involved.
Valuev refused to fight Chagaev although he had fought him before and the hepatitis situation was the same. How in hell could Valuev be WBA Champion? Now Chagaev can fight an WBA Eliminator, this shows the WBA has no problem with medical issues of Chagaev. So Valuev refuses to fight Chagaev as his mandatory challenger and still become Champion laughable. The true WBA Champion was Chagaev who took the fight against Wladimir on 20the of june. But nice to see Chagaev is back in the match, and i would love to see a fight David Haye against Ruslan Chagaev.
It was not just Valuev refusing to fight, Chagaev failed a medical http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7997405.stm Valuev was champion due to Chagaev's inactivity from illness/injury, Chagaev was champion in recess The Chagaev that fought Wladimir was not champion he was a former champion/champion in recess. In 26 months of his 'reign' he fought Skelton and Drummond and made no mandatory defence clearly he was not champion. The Haye fight you would love to see would be problematic. If he was mandatory Haye could refuse to fight him on basis he is unable to obtain a license in Britain (If Haye won purse bid). As you rightly say Valuev fight could have been rearranged in Germany yet Valuev refused this and faced no sanction so why could'nt any other fighter do this. Finally my comments are not a criticism of Chagaev I actually think he is very good and did not do himself justice against Wladimir I am merely commenting on what I consider to be an unusual situation.
I don't know how Charguev manages to stay in the WBA's graces, because they can't mandate that Haye fights Charguev in a country where he will pass a medical, so Haye can just schedule the fight for London and never have to worry about fighting Charguev.
Valuev DID refuse to fight Chagaev. If I recall correctly, he and his team were offered hep vaccinations and were told the fight could go on, he declined. Sauerland staged the fight in Finland strictly to buy the title for Valuev. They knew he would lose to Chagaev again and made sure to win the purse bid and take the fight out of Germany. Furthermore, he refused to fight mandatory challenger Kali Meehan as a sub who was on the same card. Valuev was a paper champion.
That makes no sense. Why would they spend hundreds of thousands on promotion, pay for the venue, etc. etc., just to get their fighter to be given the belt without fighting? There's no way that's worth the hundreds of thousands of Euros lost by Sauerland on a busted promotion. Sure, Valuev pussed out at the end, but I really doubt Sauerland was planning on having things turn out that way.
So because you want Valuev to have the title, you lose a million dollars? Like I said, that makes no sense. That's pure conspiracy theory bull****.
