Learning the fight game like Dempsey did and doing the work he did does more for your strength of mind and body than anything Tyson went through. Tyson could crumble mentally. Dempsey never would. Both have similar fast hands, are about equally strong, both are very good defensivly, both are aggressive but Dempsey could box and was good in all ranges. Tyson used just one range. Dempsey's punches needs less room than Tyson's and he was probably at his best in a range in which Tyson just tried to clinch which could spell rouble for him here. Tyson is bigger. But that's about the only advantage he has over Dempsey while Dempsey is rougher, tougher and more well rounded than Tyson.
I can envision Dempsey boxing Tyson early on weary of how dangerous Iron Mike is and just when he sees an opening or the possibility to counter he would dart in and unleash a combination. When Tyson jumps him, Dempsey would more into the infight and would give him more than he can handle there. I think Dempsey stops Tyson in the mid and late rounds but Tyson can KO Dempsey early if he isn't careful.
And no I don' hate Tyson. I rate him above Dempsey.

btw. Tyson idolized Dempsey, he wanted to be like him, surely for a reason. And he probably has seen more of Dempsey than any of us.

I feel it would be easier for Mike to put Dempsey away than the other way around. Unless it goes into the late rounds, which I don't expect. If Dempsey was able to execute a varied and strategically perfect game-plan, he could win. But I see these guys trading sooner or later and Mike has edges (some slight) in speed, chin, power, size and strength. I don't think the smaller Dempsey is going to last long enough in a war with Tyson to call Tyson's heart into the question. Dempsey would have to fight a very smart, and well planned out fight in order to survive while concurrently doing a lot of damage to Tyson and pulling him into deep waters. Dempsey would have to box and move a lot more than he was accustomed to, and try like hell to stay on the inside as much as possible, because that's where he's going to be doing all of his real damage.

Dempsey doesnt have the boxing skills, speed, defense, power, strength, chin to compete here. There probably isnt 1 thing Dempsey can do better in the ring than Tyson

Dempsey never beat anyone of substance and didnt fight the best despite competing in a weak era

    Tyson early KO

Tyson never got off the floor to win and with his style I am afraid he would have to vs Dempsey. Dempsey did get off the floor to fight and to win. A prime version of Dempsey takes it but the Tunney version had a lot of rust in his legs....Dempsey KO in 3-5 rds after getting up in a Foreman/Lyle type fight with Tyson down once...both men had strong killer instinct...Dempsey had more mental resolve

    The video game never lies!

People saying Dempsey has no chance sound a lot like the people who said the same thing about Holyfield before he fought Tyson. It's not a sure thing either way and there's no indication on either of their record that it would be a walkover for either fighter. My video speaks for itself

Dempsey by KO, Tyson vs pressure fighter is a recipe for Mike getting his ass kicked.

If am restricted to literally the Dempsey of just 1919 and the literally the Tyson of just 1989 then I'd go with Jack Dempsey by a landslide - because i think by that year Tyson was ready to be taken - things were starting to catch up with him - whereas the 1919 Dempsey was greased lightning (and that Willard bout was the last time he would be anything like that) - one thing about the young Tyson - I have seen him staggered to his shoes by Tony Tucker, Bonecrusher Smith, and Frank Bruno (in 1989) (all scared stiff safety first stand up boxer types who managed it with little or no instinct for the kill) which gives me the impression that theres no way that arguably the most ferocious blazing killer in heavyweight history couldn't fail but to nail Tyson and shock him - plus the 1919 Dempsey was already seasoned and had deep experience of kill or be killed type fights - whereas the 1989 Tyson really didn't - he'd basically been fighting people who were frightened of him for 3 years - I think Tyson would start looking very uncomfortable very quickly and would have to get used to it quick too (for his own good) - still Tyson was awesome and would be going for it with some big counter punches - wouldn't miss it for the world and certainly don't think it would last more than 3 or 4 rounds - for me one of the most adreneline firing fantasy fights there is - the ring walks and the atmosphere when they're in the ring for the introductions etc would be mind boggling!! - Just think too that the 1989 Tyson is a little out of his best shape - whereas Dempsey 1919 is in as incredible a shape as anyone ever has been. Tyson never had anyone ever throwing punches at him anywhere near like how Dempsey would - that's the difference for me a 21/22 year old Tyson was still green in comparison with a 24 year old Dempsey.

You are absolutely hopeless. Dempsey has all of those things in abundance. You and the other's claiming Dempsey has no chance are clueless, and I don't even rate Dempsey that highly.

i dont think dempsey has much of a chance but i disagree that he doesnt have speed/power/skill. of course he does, hes a great heavyweight. tyson just has more of each of them in my opinion. and that doesnt make me clueless
