Frank Bruno's Power Maybe Deserves More Respect?? CHECK OUT THESE COMPARISONS!!

I was ringside that night Bruno's eyes dissapeared into his head when he took that shot, he was out,earlier in the round and it would have been all over.
Cummings shot his bolt trying to follow up ,and Bruno's youth and fitness carried him through.

 

Agree I think Bruno punched harder than crusher

 

Like fellow ATG banger Earnie Shavers, Frank didn't have the whiskers or cardio to match his punching power.
Frank was a great fighter IMO and had really polished technique, but when he would gas out, it was like he was hit with a bullet. The only other fighter I saw turn so out of it so quickly was Wlad Klitschko against Lamon Brewster. He'd just turned into a lifeless mummy.

It's a fair comparison actually.

Bruno could take punches better than Wlad, I'm not sure exactly how many times Frank was put on his arse but I'm guessing not that many.

Lewis hit him with absolutely everything before the stoppage, and he was also stopped on his feet twice against Tyson.

Bruno vs Wlad would be a great fight IMO.... certainly not a foregone Wlad win as many would have you believe. The battle of the jabs would be key, he outjabbed Lewis pretty clearly for six and a half rounds...... I think Bruno could take Wlad's shots better than Wlad could take his.

 

I think he was only down against Bonecrusher Smith, Tim Witherspoon and Mike Tyson. No shame in that, especially in the Witherspoon and Smith fights where he took a beating before eventually going down.

 

It does seem daft saying that a guy with five KO losses (from five in total) had a good chin, but he was one of those.

I've not seen the Smith fight for ages, but from memory he dominated the fight pretty much from start to finish before getting nailed.

In the end it didn't make that much difference to his career.... he was in a world title fight less than two years later against a beatable champion, rather than having to face Larry Holmes.

The major disappointment about him is the 2nd Tyson fight, he just didn't fancy it at all. I'd rather he retired in all the glory - he probably did mentally - rather than taking the whupping in a fight he was certainly capable of winning.

Tyson had looked devastating in the two fights since coming out of jail, but against crap opponents.... the next time Tyson faced a top line fighter he was dominated and stopped by Holyfield.

 

I had him winning every round until Smith suddenly woke up in the 10th and last round. The stoppage was brutal but Bruno came back from it well. He didn't seem to let the occasional setback bother him much.

 

I think he was a lot stronger mentally than he is given credit for.

Not many fighters could lose by stoppage in three world title attempts and come back to do it at the 4th.

Compare that to, say, Ricky Hatton, who was pretty much ****ed mentally after the loss to Mayweather.

I have always felt that Frank Bruno's chin, durability, heart, and overall toughness is criminally underrated. In his 5 stoppages, all came against exremely big punchers in their primes, and after taking numerous blows. Frank also returned the favor against most of those guys after taking some of their best shots.

 

He didnt have a china chin, but he had a big problem once he got hit hard. He basically froze like a deer in headlights with the same "oh ****" expression on his face everytime.

 

True to some extent, but I do think he fought rather galantly in a lot of those losing efforts. His last and final match with Tyson, which ended in 3 rounds was really the only time he was ever dominated with ease.

 

I wouldn't have any trouble believing that Bruno was up there with Max Baer, George Foreman Lennox Lewis etc in terms of power.

If it wasn't his power that got him to where he got then what was it?
