It's not THE championship. Hardly anyone knew who DM even was and considered Jones the best in the sport. Jones was by far the biggest draw and can make plenty more staying where he was than to risk beating the **** out of DM and still getting robbed. You can't blame the man for not going over seas after what happend in Korea.

Jones was the WBC, IBF and WBA Light Heavyweight CHAMPION of the world. DM held the WBO. Who would be walking out to the ring first? Yes, DM.

I figured that after I jumped in this thread towards the tail end, but it was GR that it was stripped from if I recall, unfairly so. Linear?? I dont recall how either became the linear champion. The WBA WBC and IBF titles would all have to factor in.

Roy was awarded the Ring Light Heavyweight Belt in 2001 which recognizes the best fighter in the division.

Belts, smelts, felts, you get the point. Average Light Heavyweight reign at best.

You are right, Jones did clean up all the titles that were previously stripped from the man who beat the man who beat the man, but I dont necessarily blame Jones for that or hold him responsible to make the fight with DM. He simply went out and beat the guys who became the new champions, and fought for the vacant WBC title but you are right, that does make the situation on more of an even playing field.

I don't blame Jones for doing what he did. I blame him for beeing the number one contender and never seriously trying to ge a fight wih the champ. That's a knock on him. I still rank him highly. Top15 at lhw and I guess Top35/40 p4p.

Which is an American magazine known to facour American fighters. Doesn't change the fact that the ring magazine title is not the linear title - aside from the fact that the ring magazine ignored heir own rules when they made Jones champ.

also I think PBF has as much talent, just smaller and more cautious. Both are very similar actually. They go for money instead of glory.

It is meant to clear up the mess of the belt organizations. They awarded Jones the best in the division. It's all speculationon whether they favor Americans or not.
