Oh yes, me and Nige go back. Got a proper man hug off him(nowt gay or owt) when Widdy n me met him and Steve collins at a dinner do last year. I was tellin my mate Nige, about that night when i worked his corner with JT at that shithole Old Trafford and he obviously remembered me:roll: Nearly cracked a rib he squeezed me that tight.
BTW did I ever mention that I worked Nigel Benns corner with Jimmy Tibbs when he fought Chris Eubank in their rematch at Old Trafford........****in top night.

    Blue

I know your mates an all (I'm pretty sure I heard once that you've met him or something mundane like that :yep) but I was always more of a Eubank fan and the way he pretends that Boxing means nothing to him now and his religious preaching puts me off him more.

He's about the only person I'd listen to talking about God. Just a top, top man. I would never have expected him to live like he does now... mad.

Cheers to the original poster, great read.

Nigel was always a tormented soul - you could tell he was never at peace with himself during his fighting days.

He needs a faith now to help him reflect on his life and bring him peace.

I was more of a Eubank fan from Jan '89 to Jan '91 - his focus was intense, like none I've seen, and he made up for shortcomings in body structure/natural technique with a concentration and obsession for accuracy... you could just tell he was an obsessive trainer back then.

That Eubank we only saw again once, maybe twice, against John Jarvis, and maybe the Wharton fight.

I find it odd how everyone seems to have been a Eubank fan nowadays, when at the time pretty much the whole of the UK seemed to behind Benn, whilst loathing Chris (not always in a pantomime way either).

Anyway, one of the most exciting British boxers ever and I have no problems listening to his new found stuff nowadays - though I may not agree with it all.
