Roy Jones is underrated

Roy Jones is the best head to head fighter at 168 though. Nobody beats him at super middleweight.

 

Well, there's only so much hope one can invest in this "lineal" idea - which is tenuous in this instance, anyway; it's not as if DM had beaten Gene Tunney for the title, now, is it? Jones beat more guys in the top 10 during his reign. And anyway, what does it matter? So Burley never won the title; what can you say?

Jones was the pound-for-pound no. 1, the bigger draw by a wide margin, fighting out of the HOME of boxing, and had most of the belts. It was DM's responsibility to make this fight happen, and he didn't.

Monzon rarely fought in the US. Does that take anything away from him?

Does all tha matter? No. If you want to be the champ you have to take it from the champ. And if it means to travel than you have to.

btw. I didn't know Jones fought out of Britain.

Different situation. Burley never got the chance. Jones just would have had to travel. His own fault.

 

I disagree. I think prime Joe C. has a decent chance against Jones. And at mw I pick plenty over him, Monzon, Hagler, Robinson, Hopkins ...

I think Roy Jones is one of those fighters who are underrated by some, while also being overrated by others.

 

Nah, it's actually the same with all fighters. The fans overate them, the haters underate them the rest rates them somewhere in-between and are probably true. Some fans have more fans and/or haters than others is the only difference.

 

I think that's every fighter.

Did DM even want the fight? He wouldn't step on a plane to fight the p4p king for all the belts for a guaranteed career-high payday.

It might be imagination, but it just seems like people tend to go to the extremes where Jones is concerned. He tends to get a lot of nods from his supporters in many fantasy match-ups, while his legacy and statistics get dumped on by his detractors.. I don't know.. I can't think of too many fighters who sit so drastically on both far ends of the spectrum..
