I don't even know what we're talking about here. You seem genuinely surprised by the outcome of Tyson/Spinks...which is baffling to me considering you've had over 20 years to take it all in.

He is saying at the time. Which is true. Many writers/experts picked Spinks on grounds of him being awkward. Mike was certainly the favorite, but not everyone picked him. Saying this is just revisionism. Most thought it would be his biggest test.

I usually dont buy into "what every one else says" But i have to say Spinks looked scared in that fight, wouldnt have made a difference though 1988 Mike Tyson what have blitzed him fast anyways.

Addie not true at all. Tyson was the favorite but lot of people thought Spinks awkward herky jerky style(at Hvy) might give Tyson problems, Mike was thought of as sensational but not yet invincible some were thinking Spinks might be the one to expose him. I was only about 60/40 on this fight (although i did pick Tyson) and gave Michael a good shot.

Addie not trying to be "pretentious" like some of you call me, but this is what i mean when im talking about actually being fans at the time these fights took place. Not everyone picked Tyson but im sure many of the younger fans think so.

I don't think you're pretentious. You're an asset to put revisionist little boys like me in my place. I think Prince Petey is pretentious...and Australian.

Let it be known though, I'm the only young fan here accustomed to getting things wrong. Guys like Sweet Pea actually know what they're talking about.

Boxing has a long and storied history, and I've only been a fan of the sport for a little over four years. It's like walking through a never ending library, no walls in sight.

Yes ive been a die hard fan for a little over 30 years and learned a lot. Way before the Internet. So instead i read many many books and researched (literally have thousands of boxing magazines dating back to the late 70s), it wasnt as easy as it is now. In fact im not to computer literate and only a year ago have been exposed to alot info the Internet has. Here and there im still learning .Back when i was a teenager friends and family always tripped out how much i knew about boxing for being so young, forward a few decades later( ill will be going on 40 soon) and still learning some stuff here and there.

I have been into boxing for 30 years myself (45 years old now) and the boxing magazines were great weren't they? I loved the interviews. I used to go to a liquor store everyday and the guy would see me walk in and say 2 magazines came in or something like that. It was so great reading the new issues and ratings parked in my car in the parking lot and eating lunch. I would go into the store everyday hoping the magazines came. Somehow it is not as exciting now maybe because the fighters are not as exciting or maybe because for me it was just a new thing then and I was young. I still have all my magazines packed away. I do not look at them anymore, but I must have 6 years worth of KO,Ring, Boxing Illustrated etc. I have them packed away and have not seen them in years. I do not buy the magazines anymore and I don't even know if they sell them anymore, but they probably do.
