Take a look at some of the champs.

Riddick Bowe- brain damaged, trouble with law, keeps on trying to fight against better judgement.

Holyfield- has to be brain damaged, bankrupt, keeps on fighting in the places that will allow it.

Morrison- in absolute medical denial, shot and ill-equipped to the task but keeps on fighting.

McCall- just busted again today for crack, was supposed to fight tomorrow... 44yrs old.

And you wonder why I voted you the most depressing poster on ESB. That's sad as hell.

Sorry but these guys represent my "hey day" and it is indeed sad seeing so many of them end up like this. And then today comes word on McCall.

2 Questions. Is Morrison reference to the HIV/AIDS testing? I always thought it was some mis-diagnosis or it miraculous went away. What are the details on that? And to what extent is Bowe brain-damaged? I know he has money issues so you might as well list him as bankrupt too.

The italics are whats been added by me.

Makes you think. You can't blame some of these guys for calling a quit early or those who try taking the easier paydays. It's just common sense. Nobody wants to end up damaged. Some get luckier and seem to scrap out fine regardless of the punches they take. Others it seems to take less. A bit of a mystery, though.

    Let's brighten this **** up.

Lennox Lewis is having a great time at HBO, laughing his ass off getting paid for a job anyone of us could do more competently. That's a success story if I've ever heard one.

    This is true.

Lewis is another good story. Does HBO, and seems secure.

Tyson story, considering how crazy his life was, and how reckless he lived seems to be managing alright.

Now the million dollar question: did the 80's HW's manage to end up even worse?

If we're only considering lineal champions (Holmes, Spinks, Tyson), then they ended up pretty well.

But in most cases, boxers don't end up well. Partially because boxing is a brutal mental assault, and partially because most of them wouldn't have lived "successful" lifes in the first place. Guys like Tyson, Bowe, McCall, etc, weren't exactly born in the cradle of righteousness.

Morrisons girlfriend said he says he doesnt HIV so he can box. Certain treatments can keep HIV to undetectable levels, but it doesnt mean Morrison doesnt have it.

For that reason Morrison is a ****, although he always seems a **** when interviewed

Bruno had cocaine and psychological issues, he'd have a big mansion but sleep in a ring at night. His marriage fell apart when he started to see prostitutes.

If I could just say "play him off, keyboard cat" and have it happen right now in this thread, I would.

Take a look at the 70's and 80's too. Its par for the course. Part of boxing, considering the upbringing of most fighters.

Brain damage doesnt just affect IQ, it affects controls over your emotional control. That and the fact your career/life/fame has peaked and is now history, a fighter may not have another purpose in life, pretty depressing

Was he the one who had his life screwed due to a false test? Although I remember him talking about how he fought a guy with it and he was bleeding all over him.

His girlfriend hopes he doesn't have it.
